AAAE Call for Conference Research Papers and Session Proposals The Association of Arts Administration Educators (AAAE) seeks submissions in response to the 2022 AAAE Annual Conference’s theme New Directions: Who, What, Why & How, scheduled to take place online from May 23 through May 27. The COVID-19 pandemic is more global in scope than any other crisis we have faced in the recent past. While arts organizations and individual artists are among the hardest hit by the economic hardship inflicted by the pandemic, the latter has placed art even more prominently at the heart of people’s lives as a coping mechanism. Data gathered from different parts of the world show an increase in art consumption, which speaks to art's power to contribute to human resilience. The conference will approach the current crisis as an opportunity to reexamine arts managers’ responsiveness to the current situation and the way their role has been shaped by education in arts administration. The New Directions theme welcomes you to explore the changes in the field of arts administration, from the new hybrid pedagogy through experiential learning to the transition from classrooms to the arts workforce. We invite you to engage with the topic and one or more of the guiding questions, listed in the submission forms by sending your proposals within the deadline March 1, 2022 (11:59 pm Pacific Time). You can submit proposals here. The Arts In Society Call for 2022 Conference Papers The Seventeenth International Conference on the Arts in Society offers an interdisciplinary forum for discussion of the role of the arts in society. It is a place for critical engagement, examination and experimentation, developing ideas that connect the arts to their contexts in the world – on stage, in studios and theaters, in classrooms, in museums and galleries, on the streets and in communities We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions. 2022 Conference Focus - History/Histories: From the Limits of Representation to the Boundaries of Narrative Theme 1: Pedagogies of the Arts Theme 2: Arts Histories and Theories Theme 3: New Media, Technology, and the Arts Theme 4: The Arts in Social, Political, and Community Life HUMANITY, an Online Exhibition / Calls & Submissions Art Fluent invites artists worldwide to submit artwork to our online exhibit, HUMANITY. Since I Been Down - Film Discussion & Advocacy for Justice Reform by Seattle U ICTC Join a discussion of Since I Been Down. This film told by the people who have lived these conditions, unravels why children commit violent crime and how these children—now adults—are breaking free from their fate by creating a model of justice that is transforming their lives, our humanity and the quality of life for all our children. The panel presentation and discussion will be led by Jennifer Kelly, Director of the Jesuit Restorative Justice Initiative Northwest (JRJINW). Shakespeare: Drum & Colours by Seattle Shakespeare Two plays. Two directors. Nine Actors. It’s theatrical lightning in a bottle! Juxtaposing a comedy and a tragedy in rotating repertory is a showpiece of range and talent. Hamlet and As You Like It are distilled to their essences in sizzling adaptations that focus on the actor’s art of storytelling peeled bare. For the past two years, Seattle Shakespeare has supported POC artists on a journey to explore personal connections to the classics through our Shakespeare Equity Engagement program and the Holding Space project. In meeting the community’s needs this all-POC Shakespeare repertory company sprang forth with 360-degree representation, including actors, directors, and an all-POC design team. It’ll be a theatrical highwire act to shed new light on familiar works. Soo Hong's Metaplay by AMcE Creative Arts AMcE Creative Arts is pleased to be presenting a solo exhibition of Seattle-based abstract painter Soo Hong. Her show Metaplay includes large-scale paintings inspired by quotidian moments, internal dialogues and cultural queries expressed through vibrant color and brushstroke energized with a cadence the artist likens to her life’s soundtrack. The contiguous pieces in Metaplay riff on the tempo of music as it relates to her thought patterns and processes. This exhibition and all events have been coordinated by Cay Lane, MFA '21. Embodied Change: South Asian Art Across Time by Seattle Asian Art Museum Spanning a period from the third millennium BCE to today, the works in this exhibition offer metamorphic and compelling images of the human body. Most of the artists utilize female and feminized forms in a myriad of ways, including as a devotional object, as a mode of self-representation, and to question the safety of public spaces. #DoTheWork Arts Leadership Formation Part of our commitment, as Arts Leaders, is to remain open and teachable in the formation of our leadership posture and approach.
