Community StoriesSon’s footprint arrives homeDecades ago, a cheeky 12-year-old boy named Michael left his footprint and initials in a wet concrete footpath along Cinderella Drive. Although his mum Marion disapproved, he unknowingly created something that would keep his memory alive as he passed away later that year. When the Road Infrastructure Delivery (RID) team and BMD contractors heard about Michael's story, they carved out the slab containing his footprints and delivered it to his mum. OzHarvest Logan NEST Program Expressions of Interest wanted!OzHarvest are on the lookout for potential and suitable agencies in Logan to host a NEST program. NEST (Nutrition Education Skills Training) is a free 6-week public health program which aims to improve nutrition, food literacy and cooking skills. The program is run in many settings, including schools, community hubs/centres, playgroups, and churches. Anyone can fall victim to a scam, so join Amputees Qld and Emily Gould from Seniors Enquiry Line to find out more about scams and how to keep yourself safe online. Scam Awareness is a Healthy Ageing Hub event, providing healthy-ageing information and support for older people (50 years and older), their families and carers in our community. When: Friday 18 September 10:00 am Community ProgramsFree Breast Screening at JimboombaThe BreastScreen Queensland mobile will be in Jimboomba and is offering free breast cancer screening to eligible clients. Women are eligible from age 40 with those aged 50 – 74 strongly encouraged to attend, as this is the age where the evidence of screening is strongest. Permanent clinics are also available at Burleigh Waters, Helensvale, Robina and Southport. Representatives from the ICA and insurers will be available for face-to-face consultations to provide customers with the opportunity to discuss the progress of their claim, and to work through any outstanding issues with their insurer. Applications close: 5pm Friday 6 September 2024 Applications are now open for the Queensland Government Fair Play Vouchers. When a round is open, parents, carers or guardians can apply for a voucher valued up to $200 for their child, which can be used towards sport and active recreation membership, registration or participation fees with a registered activity provider. There is a limit of 1 voucher per child per financial year.
