20th May 2022A Message from the Head... ![]() Today saw the end of an era at Gateways as the class of 2022 formally took their leave of us. They led assembly this morning with an emotional, funny and, at times, Health and Safety breaching, look back at their time at Gateways! Click on the image below to see some of what they shared with us! Then there was much shirt signing and a special lunch for them upstairs in the Library before they embarked upon the traditional evening entertainment usually enjoyed by the departing Upper 6th on their last day at school - you know what I mean girls! They leave with our very best wishes for the next few weeks and I can't wait to celebrate properly with them at our Graduation Lunch on results day in August! Another residential...![]() Also taking place this week for the first time in 2 years was the Upper 1, Lower 2 and Upper 2, three day residential at Peat Rigg, near Pickering. The children have really challenged themselves with a number of activities such as abseiling, bushcraft, canoeing, orienteering, archery and everyone's favourite ... the zip wire! None of these children had ever been on a residential before because of COVID and so this was an even bigger milestone in their Gateways journey than would otherwise be the case. ![]() Next week, as well as the continuing GCSE and A Level exams, we have the EYFS Jubilee Concert on Wednesday at 2pm in the PAC. I am looking forward to it immensely! In the meantime, have a lovely weekend everyone. - Dr Tracy Johnson - Farewell to Upper 6![]() The traditional Leavers’ assembly was held for the first time in three years in the PAC today. It was a perfect way for the girls to say goodbye to the school many have been part of since they were 3 years old. The assembly consisted of some moving video and photographic montages, and some hilarious confessions! The day provided some wonderfully memorable moments and was a perfect way to end their successful two years in Sixth Form. On behalf of their Form Tutors and teaching staff I would like to wish them all the very best for their bright futures. They have been a credit to themselves and the school. - Mr Martin Davison - A Level and GCSE Art Exhibition![]() On Wednesday we held a private viewing of our annual GCSE and A Level art exhibition, to the friends and family of our Upper 5 and Upper 6 pupils whose work was featured. The work on display included a range of paintings, drawings, photography installations, fashion garments and 3D pieces. The variety of themes ranged from car mechanics, to animal anatomy, to horror to souvenirs of Yorkshire! It was a great opportunity for pupils to proudly display and share their work. The catering staff put on a lovely spread of canapes and wine for our guests which were delicious. What a fabulous ending to the art course - well done Upper 5 and Upper 6! - Mrs Della Harrison - Wharfedale Speech & Drama Festival![]() This week Gateways students attended the 116th Wharfedale Festival, it is affiliated with the British and International federation of festivals, of which her Majesty the Queen is the patron. It provides a wide opportunity for performers, of all ages and abilities to play to an audience and compete against other schools in the area. Nine of our students entered class 1A , the category was ‘Verse Speaking Year 2 and under’. I am thrilled to announce that we had a clean sweep! 1st place - Spencer Cooper 2nd place - Ellie Cooper 3rd place - Lewis Williamson We also had four students who entered class 24. The students had to perform a duologue presentation taken from a book or play. Emily Pheasey & Sophia Green (Lower 3) and Eloise Newton & Bo Johnson (Upper 3) all gained excellent marks. I am very proud of all the children who entered. Keep up the good work! - Miss Lynne Malone - PFA Summer Ball - raffle / auction prizes needed ![]() Can you donate a raffle or auction prize for the Summer Ball?
