A new financial year always brings a sense of momentum. It’s a chance to refocus on what matters most and how we work together to achieve it.

For us, that means continuing to strengthen a scheme which is responsive and works for all stakeholders. This financial year, we are focusing our efforts on areas we know can make the greatest difference. We will be placing our emphasis on improving support for vulnerable workers and creating a simpler, clearer entry point into the scheme through the redesign of the claim form.

We also recognise the broader economic environment and the cost pressures being experienced across the scheme. Maintaining scheme stability remains a core priority, and we will continue to work closely with industry to support sustainable outcomes for workers, employers and service providers.

These are not priorities we deliver alone. They rely on strong collaboration across the scheme to turn this intent into system wide improvements.

Together, we have a shared role to play in shaping a scheme which delivers better outcomes where it matters most.

What's new? 

Injured workers have a range of statutory entitlements available in the Western Australian workers compensation scheme to assist them to recover from their workplace injury and return to work.

The Indexation of Workers Compensation Payments 2026/27 Schedule (the Schedule) provides the list of indexed entitlements that apply from 1 July 2026.

The Schedule includes the indexation of the General Maximum Amount for the 2026/27 financial year, which has increased from $273,220 to $284,448.

GPs are often the first point of contact for workers after a workplace injury and have a massive impact on a worker’s claim experience.

Our new Workers Compensation Essentials for General Practice Clinics Fact Sheet helps clinic staff manage practical and administrative matters, including payment of accounts and confidentiality of information.

From 1 July 2026, Registered Independent Agents can no longer operate as independent agents with respect to disputes in the WorkCover WA Conciliation and Arbitration Services. 

The Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 2023 (the Act) provided a transition period of two years from the date the Act came into operation. This transition period concluded on 30 June 2026, and pursuant to section 578 of the Act, independent agents can no longer provide agent services.  

We take this opportunity to thank registered independent agents for their cooperation during the transition period, and their contributions to the workers compensation scheme to date. 

Five years after they came into operation, we will be conducting a review of the Insurer and Self-insurer Principles and Standards of Practice (Principles and Standards). 

Led by a working group the review will include consultation with licensed stakeholders and relevant industry groups, with WorkCover WA calling for feedback to ensure the Principles and Standards continue to support a consistent, fair and professional approach to workers compensation processes in Western Australia.

This project will commence early in 2026/27, with more information to follow.

We are expanding our capability to conduct conciliation conferences and arbitration hearings via video in our rooms at WorkCover WA in Shenton Park to continuously improve our flexibility and manage the dispute workload.

Attendance in-person is required unless a party has been given approval or has been directed to attend by video conference or telephone as set out in the listing notice on their case. The conduct conciliator or arbitrator will determine whether phone, video or in-person attendance is most appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
