I hope your first week back at The Heights was successful! As a Division, we are excited to have you back on campus! We are also excited to share with you events happening around campus this week. Foremost, I'd like to wish you all a very happy Lunar New Year! For those who would like to learn more about this celebration, view here or see details below. The remaining weeks of January are busy and so to kick off the Spring semester I encourage you to attend the 2023 Spring Involvement Fair happening this Friday, January 27 in the Margot Connell Recreation Center. If you are not quite sure what you would be interested in, check out the 300 plus Student Organizations at BC. 

Next, I would like to highlight the events happening for Career Week in the Arts & Entertainment. Starting today, January 23 until Thursday, January 26, the Arts Council and the Career Center are hosting events geared towards students interested in learning more about opportunities in Arts & Entertainment.  

Finally, the Office of the Dean of Students is launching Deans and Donuts, and will be offering free donuts this Friday starting at 9:00 a.m. in Maloney 450, and going forward the last Friday of each month. Stop by for donuts, casual conversation, and resources.

Academic Feature

The Human Right to Access Vaccines:
The Case of COVID-19

In this panel which leads a discussion on COVID-19 and the availability of vaccines, Professor Forman will ask how state obligations to secure human rights to health and science, recognized in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and elsewhere in international human rights law, impact vaccines and treatment issues. She will also discuss the possibility of a pandemic treaty. Professor Landrigan will speak to the value of vaccines to prevent disease and to stabilize societies, drawing on his decades of experience as an epidemiologist working on public health issues.

BC Arts | Robsham Theater 

Written by Maggie Kearnan '14 and directed by Grace Cutler '24, Idawalley is inspired by the life of female lighthouse keeper Idawalley Lewis of Newport, RI. This play follows Ida and her family in their life on Lime Rock, maintaining the lighthouse, facing ghosts from their past, and what the changing times means for their future.
