Consumer SpendingNewcastle's economic expenditure for the January-March quarter saw a change in total local spend of -12.1%, just below the NSW trend of -11.3%. This is to be expected as wallets recover from the heavy spending period in the lead up to Christmas. Visitors to the LGA enjoyed a splurge this quarter with their spending averaging more than that of Newcastle residents for every day of the week with the exception of Sunday. Sunday saw a reduction in economic expenditure when compared to average figures for other days of the week, likely reflecting the decrease in trading hours. Source: Spendmapp by Geographia (2023).
