The Principal, Council and St Andrew’s College community honour the life of David 'Dave' John Currey, who passed away on the 12th January 2025, aged 61 years.
Born in Coonamble on 19 September 1963, Dave grew up in Carinda, and boarded at Cranbrook School for six years where he was School Prefect and Head of his boarding house. He enjoyed rugby
union and cricket, and other early interests included grazing and rifle shooting.
Dave came to St Andrew's College in June 1982, staying for one semester while studying Geology, before heading home during a drought. He later returning in 1984 and staying until the end of 1985. During his time at College he could be found on the oval playing touch football, and played Rawson Cup Rugby and Cricket in 1985. He was involved in all areas of college life with his unassuming approach and interested demeanour building a wide circle of mates. He continued his love of rugby playing and supporting Carinda on returning
home.
Dave met his wife Nicki while at Sydney University, and they had Amelia, Holly and Alan who Dave was immensely proud of. Together they built a substantial farming and grazing enterprise at ‘Golden Plains’ Goodooga, along with significant off-farm holdings.
Dave was an unassuming, intelligent and dependable mate who will be
terribly missed by all those who knew him. The Currey family is held warmly in our thoughts and our deepest sympathy is extended to all who knew Dave.
Dave's Memorial service will be held on Friday, 24th January, at the Walgett Showground Pavilion at 11am.
