Notices- Please read thoroughly:

*If parents would like to arrange a meeting with a member of staff, please email them directly to arrange this.  The school office does not have access to staff diaries, but can provide parents with the email address of the member of staff they would like to get in touch with.  We cannot arrange spontaneous meetings with staff as they follow a daily timetable, have scheduled meetings to attend and may be required to cover/support lessons.

** Please ensure birthday/celebration cakes that you wish to share with your child's class are given to your child's class teacher in the morning when you drop them off and is sliced, completely nut free (no traces) and suitable for vegetarians.  We will not accept any cakes/treats that do not meet this criteria.  Please consider providing plates/tissues (cup-cakes are always the neatest to share!).

***ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

If your child is absent please contact the school the same day with the reason for the absence.

.          For absences between 1 – 3 days: a daily telephone call or an e-mail to the school: attendance@school21.org.uk / htayfur@school21.org.uk  from parents/carers by 8:30am stating student’s name, class, year and reason for your child's absence  (please only use your child's initials in the subject heading of any email).

·         For absences between 4 – 5 days we will require letter or proof of medication with an explanation on or before the child’s return to school.

·         For absences of 5 days and over parents must provide written medical evidence i.e a prescription or appointment letter.

We will inform you if your child's absence or lateness causes concern and will work with you to find a way of improving your child's attendance. If you would like to discuss your child’s attendance / punctuality or have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the attendance officer at the school via the above email address.

****Punctuality
It is important that your child attends school on time- Primary, Middle and Secondary (8:30am). A pupil arriving late will disrupt not only his/her learning but also that of others.

******Safe Parking - We are disappointed to say that despite several notices, some of our parents are still not following the "no parking" yellow zig-zag signs outside the school premises.  We are now in the process of working with the local authority to ensure that parking laws are adhered to.  Parking illegally causes a health and safety hazard for our parents and especially our children.  Please keep them safe!

*******Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day.  The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning.

The Alien

This week in Reception we have been using our imaginations and expanding our knowledge of Space to innovate the story of The Alien. We have created our own planets, carefully considering different factors such as temperature, size and what it is made out of. We even named our planets and had some fantastic creations! I wonder if our aliens come from Planet Gaga or Planet Coconut!?

There are no After School Clubs on:

The week commencing Monday 12th February - Half Term
The week commencing Monday 5th March - Parents Evening Week

Day and Knight

This week in PBL, Year 2 we made shields that Medieval knights would have used to protect themselves during Jousting Tournaments. We thought carefully about the meaning behind the colours, patterns and animals that we chose to go onto our shields. We then made our shields using paint, masking tape and cardboard.

In maths we started to look at fractions, focusing this week on finding a half and a quarter of quantities and shape. We have been using mathematical vocabulary like numerator, denominator and vinculum when talking about our fractions. Ask us what they mean!

During our literacy lessons we closely examined the character of Robin Hood and wrote a character description. We then created our own character, who would have been part of Robin Hood's Merry Men, thinking in particular about how we could describe their appearance and personality.

Choose Kind Online

This week, the children of Year 4 Obama and Seacole have been launching themselves into Digital Professionalism and how to keep safe online. They have deepened their understanding of the 'SMART Internet Rules' and explored (through fantastic discussion) what to do in a range of scenarios online - such as receiving unwanted messages and emails from unknown recipients. We launched the School 21 initiative: Choose Kind Online, and will be exploring this further next week as part of 'Safer Internet Day' on Tuesday!

No more Rubbish!

This week in Year 1 we interviewed Tom and Junior (School21 Maintenance and Facilities Team) we asked them lots of questions regarding waste and how we could help them keep the school tidy and clean. We then put our rubber gloves on and started making a difference! We did a really good job!
