The latest information on Council's acquisition of Mount Iron land in Wānaka. Welcome to a short and sweet third edition of Queenstown Lakes District Council's newsletter on our purchase of nearly 100 hectares of land around Mount Iron and Little Mount Iron in Wānaka. An update on the acquisitionResource consent has now been lodged to install a safety fence along a section of Mount Iron reserve land that borders private property. The application proposes a four-metre-wide construction corridor, but we hope to keep this to a smaller corridor where possible. More exciting to some may be that we’re in discussions with the Department of Conservation (DOC) around a possible transfer of some land around the southeastern side of Mount Iron, which would lead to QLDC taking over management of an additional 52.8 hectares of scenic reserve land here. Before formally requesting this land from DOC, Councillors will be asked to agree to the transfer of land at the Full Council meeting on Thursday 11 August 2022. Next stepsWe’ll share an update on the outcome of the Full Council meeting, in addition to any new developments in our purchase of the Mount Iron and Little Mount Iron land on Friday 12 August 2022. |
