Transport partner Ziegler insists that the merchandise must undergo a BMSB treatment by heat. We are aware that there are other forms of BMSB treatment that don't involve heat extremes of this nature and would like to enquire about the options available. Response The reason why they may insist on the treatment in France could be because the cargo is transhipping New Zealand, as New Zealand has requirements if cargo originates from a Schedule 3 country and is transhipping New Zealand. Requirements will depend on how it is sent e.g. break bulk, or within fully sealed container , and how long it is in New Zealand before shipped to New Caledonia. The approved offshore treatment providers can advice on the range of treatment options and comment on the safety of the treatment on the cargo. Topic 2 – Paint and other paint related products Enquiry I have a client who has asked if paint / paint related products (stain etc) can be classed as sensitive cargo, if imported in a FCL from Italy. Response Paint and tinned paints must be treated in Italy. Paints are not listed on the sensitive cargo list.
