Check what 37 countries are subject to BMSB requirements when importing vehicles, machinery and parts

What has changed?

The 19/20 BMSB off-shore treatment provider list has been removed from the Australian  Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment (DAWE)  website. The 20/21 list is now available. To find more information about the BMSB treatment  provider Scheme that MPI and DAWE use for the management of BMSB, you can find this here:

BMSB treatment in Japan

MPI requires BMSB management for vehicles, machinery and parts export from Japan, different to what is required when importing into Australia. Therefore, MPI has approved additional treatment providers in Japan on a separate MPI treatment provider list: Please use this list and not the main BMSB offshore treatment provider list

Importers may also consider treatment for goods (such as used parts) on the way to New Zealand in countries such as Singapore if treatment in Japan is limited or not an option for you.

FAQ

Question

I don’t see my Schedule 3 country, where I will export from on the  approved offshore BMSB treatment provider  20/21 list, what do I do now?

Answer:

MPI allows goods to be treated by listed approved providers, in any country before they arrive in New Zealand. If treatment cannot be carried out in the country of export, you will need to arrange treatment in another country on the way to New Zealand.  Please note: it is not an option to have goods treated in Australia during transhipment on the way to New Zealand – There are no Australian treatment providers on the offshore treatment provider list.

Make sure the treatment certificate has relevant identifiers linking the certificate to the rest of the shipping documentation.
