You might have noticed that the Titiro user guides are no longer on the MPI web page Titiro: Food Act verification and enforcement recording. You can now access these on the Food Safety Academy here. The Academy is for verifiers, evaluators, Food Safety Officers, registration authorities, managers, and administrators working under the Food Act 2014. Rules for Donating Food

Do your food businesses know the rules around donating food? A Good Samaritan’ clause (section 352) was put into the Food Act 2014 to protect food businesses (that trade in food) who donate food. If your businesses are wondering how to donate food, an option is the New Zealand Food Network. Read more. 

 

Update: COVID-19 and Food Safety

Auckland is at COVID-19 Alert Level 3, and the rest of New Zealand is at Alert Level 2, until at least midnight today. It’s very important that food verification services continue safely during the COVID-19 response to make sure food safety is managed properly. For more information, visit the Food Safety Academy’s COVID-19 and Remote Check pages. Read more.

Claiming CPD Points for Learning Activities

Many verifiers have begun to complete learning activities to fulfil their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements. However, some verifiers have claimed points for activities that are not eligible for CPD points this year, because the activity took place before the current CPD period began on 1 October 2020. Review of Food Residues Survey Programme

Food Act 2014 regulators and verifiers of horticulture businesses – to follow up our update in Food News 30 October 2020, New Zealand Food Safety is undertaking a formal review of the Food Residues Survey Programme. Read more.

 

Survey COVID-19 Webinars

Feedback from Food Act 2014 verification agencies and registration authorities about New Zealand Food Safety’s 2020 COVID-19 webinar series was very encouraging. Thank to your feedback, we’ll be able to make improvements to how the webinars are delivered this year. Read more.

 

Feeding/Supplying Waste Food to Animals

We would like to remind businesses that if they make food for animals, or feed/supply food waste to pigs, they must meet certain requirements to reduce the risk of spreading unwanted diseases. This includes cafes, food processors and retailers. Read more.

 

Reviewing Food Recall Guidance

New Zealand Food Safety is reviewing guidance for food businesses on food recalls. The guidance includes a number of documents and templates, to help businesses in the food and beverage industry with food recalls. We have started a review of these documents, and the processes involved, to make sure these are fit-for-purpose. Read more.

Reporting an Allergic Reaction to Foods

Territorial Authorities, there’s a new resource available that you might like to share with your communities and/or link to the food safety sections of your web pages. MPI's Food Compliance Services and Allergy New Zealand have produced a pamphlet “Reporting an Allergic Reaction to Foods”, which advises consumers about when and how to report a product with a potentially undeclared allergen.
