Celebrating 500 years! One week to go! As the summer term draws to a close, our pupils have been busier than ever—testing their limits, honing their talents, taking exams, and looking outward to the wider world. From the four-hour HYROX charity workout that Emelia, Hattie, Elif, Adam, Tom, and Charlie powered through for Save the Children, to Powell House’s dawn river dip that set the tone for Sunday Chapel, this fortnight has been rich in courage and camaraderie. Academic curiosity has been on full display: our Model United Nations debated global education policy, while Year 12 debaters locked horns in Dinner Debate Round Five, with Lupton House capturing the night’s top score. Meanwhile, Powell boys Chris, Harry, and George took their first steps toward university life at the Leeds Beckett Open Day, and Julia (Year 10, Lupton) became Sedbergh’s youngest ever ARSM Diploma holder—an extraordinary musical milestone. Away from the classroom, triumphs have echoed across the fells and fairways. Robertson’s Kitty swung to victory at Close House under the eye of golfing great Lee Westwood; Lupton’s Gold DofE trio braved five testing days in the hills; and, among many prize-winners, we celebrate Daisy and Ava’s Year 11 prizes for chemistry, music, and all-round excellence. Even supper turned into adventure as Sedgwick Year 9s caught, prepared, and cooked their own fish under Mr Twyford’s watchful eye. With our Year 11 and 13 pupils entering the final stretch of exams, the whole community is rallying behind them—proof that whether it’s intellectual rigour, sporting stamina, or simple everyday kindness, the Sedbergh spirit runs through everything we do. This is by no means an exhaustive list of the pupils deserving praise. We congratulate everyone who has received Year 11 prizes, excelled in their music exams, or performed beautifully at assembly and in Chapel—there are too many to mention here. Enjoy the snapshots that follow! SPECIAL NOTE: Tickets are available online for the Royal Northern Sinfonia performing in Powell Hall at 6:30pm on 22nd June as well as to attend Speech Day lunches, dinner and the Leavers' Ball. Summer Solstice RunHeadmaster Mr Harrison and 4 other staff members are on DAY 2 of their incredible 'Sedbergh Summer Solstice Stride' - 3 days running from York to Sedbergh, a distance of 90 miles. The run retraces the steps of our Founder, Roger Lupton, who in 1475 made his way to York to be ordained as an acolyte. The runners will also be carrying a message from King Charles III which will be shared with all the Friends of Sedbergh who are joining us for the celebrations back at Sedbergh. This extraordinary effort by our staff aims to help raise money for our Roger Lupton Scholarship and Bursaries Scheme.
