RallySprint the Sequel

Hello my friends, it has been a while since I last wrote an article for the Squeal.  As some of you might know, last year was a season of firsts as we held our first ever RallySprint at Rausch Creek Off-Road Park.  We managed to hold 2 events despite scheduling and weather issues.  The first event was a dry event and, with some minor hiccups, ran quite well for a new program at a new venue.  Our second event was a very unique one as, not only was it muddy, we ran it into the night.  Even though the conditions weren’t great and some competitors had mechanical failures, everyone had a great time and kept asking when the next one was.  We had great feedback from the volunteers, with whom we couldn’t have had any of the events.

This season we are planning to come back with more events.  All events will be single events, but set up as Saturday and Sunday events with a discounted rate for running both.  The course is currently around 1.6 miles and we intend on extending it even more.  The dates are as follows:

•    May 21st and 22nd

•    August 6th and 7th

•    August 27th and 28th

•    November 5th and 6th

As previously mentioned, we cannot have these events without the help of our volunteers as this is not a race/work event like the RallyCross events.  As a volunteer, your job is very simple.  All most of the jobs require is that you watch the section that you’re working and radio in if anyone hits a cone/hay bale, goes off course, or has a mechanical issue disabling them.  We will have a recovery vehicle and EMS on-site to deal with the issues that may arise.  Other jobs will include, being a starter and launching the vehicles, finish line worker, and the ATC control worker after the finish.  We plan to feed every volunteer that helps us out, last event we had hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, chips, and cookies.  You also get to see some really fast vehicles race through the woods and over.  If you are interested in being a volunteer, make sure that you sign up for the events when the registration opens up.  It is important to note that these events are going to be full weekend events (Saturday and Sunday), but you do not have to register for both days.  Camping on-site is free and others will be camping out as well.  If this sounds like fun, we welcome you to join us this year for some high-speed racing action.  If you have any questions regarding this program as a volunteer or as a competitor, please feel free to reach out to me at nlandis@scca-susq.com or on the Facebook group messenger.

We're Looking for Help!

We’re making some changes to the programs this year, and we’re interested in having a Membership Chief position for Autocross and Rallycross.  We’re looking to grow the region, and we want new participants to become SCCA members.  What does this mean?  Well…

  • Do you like talking to people about race cars?

  • Are you friendly and interested in welcoming new people to the program?

  • Do you attend most of the region events and would be available in the mornings?

Then, this just may be for you!  This would count as your worker assignment at each of the events.  You’ll interact with people at the registration tent, and you’ll talk with people throughout the day, and provide help to people with questions and the event staff through the event days.

If this sounds like something you’re interested in doing, please reach out to me at mmauro@scca-susq.com.

Waiting Patiently for RallyCross

Hi All,

As I write this, I’m waiting for the official word to release our schedule for this year. I can tell you that we’ll be returning to our before times format, which involves the return of the season opener rally school! The RallyCross committee is also actively searching for new venues. If our efforts prove fruitful, we could possibly add events to this years’ schedule!

Editor's note: Events are being built out,
the calendar may not yet have events listed.

Soak Up the Benefits of SCCA Membership

MAR 1, 2022 —  Spring is right around the corner for most of us, no matter what that pesky groundhog might have told us. That means many of us are in our traditional last-minute scramble to finish up the winter project we didn’t quite get to.

Luckily, being an SCCA member helps with that. Not only does it give you access to events and an opportunity to run your car, it also provides a full list of member benefits that can help get your car on track.

Puerto Rico Representing At Hoosier Super Tours

MAR 12, 2022 —  Not unlike the “British Invasion” that transformed rock and roll in the 1960s, the SCCA Summit Road Racing program is undergoing a bit of an “Island Invasion.” And like the rock invasion, a group of racers from Puerto Rico are poised to take (Sports Car Club of) America by storm.

The SCCA Puerto Rico Region earned the 2020 SCCA Small Region of the Year and continues to grow – more impressive thanks to the logistical challenges involved at being separated from the mainland, not the least of which is not being able to tow to race tracks.

SCCA Foundation Provides Grant for HillClimb Series

MAR 7, 2022 — A year ago, the East Tennessee, Blue Ridge and Central Carolinas Regions combined to form the SCCA Appalachian Hill Climb organization and hosted the first event, a sold-out HillClimb at Pine Mountain Resort Park in Pineville, Kentucky.

The success of that event has led to a plan for other events in the areas, capitalizing on the joint effort of the three Regions playing to their individual strengths.
