UW Center for Urban HorticultureRegister today and join us for the 2026 ITHS EXPO! This year's theme, Engineering and Medicine, is highlighted through an impressive lineup of speakers and presenters. The event opens with a keynote address by Dr. Robert J. Jones, President of the University of Washington, followed by remarks from Dr. Tueng T. Shen, Associate Dean for Medical Technology Innovation, and will conclude the day with lightning talks from early-career entrepreneurs and a poster session.
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA‑H) has announced a significant award to the University of Washington to develop and validate an ultra‑miniaturized wireless biosensor designed for placement in the tear duct as part of a multi‑institutional team.
A team of researchers at the University of Washington has created 3D reconstructions of human liver tissue that provide new understanding of the organ at a cellular level. Their project, the Liver Map pipeline, is described in a paper published in the Feb 18 issue of Science
Advances.
For this installment of the ITHS Profile Series, we spoke with Mandy Fretts, PhD, MPH, Distinguished Faculty for the ITHS KL2 Program, as well as a KL2 Program alumna. In this conversation, Dr. Fretts dives into how watching family members cope with diabetes has informed her research and how the protected time and resources of the KL2 program helped kickstart
her career.
