NWTD gains EPBC approval from the Commonwealth

Another major planning milestone was recently hit, with approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act granted from the Commonwealth, subject to conditions.

NWTD Project Director, Richie Sheather, welcomed the EPBC approval as a strong endorsement of the project.

“We really appreciate the Federal Minister’s prompt approval of NWTD, and his confidence in the project,” Mr Sheather said.

“We’re now approaching the very final pre-construction steps, including financial close.

“This is another ‘umpire’s endorsement’ that our project will proceed, with important environmental conditions designed to protect matters of national environmental significance.”

TasNetworks will continue to work closely with the Australian Government to ensure these conditions are met with no expected impact to project timelines, and within budget.

The NWTD team will be there with hands‑on, construction‑themed activities the whole family can enjoy. Our Bright Futures Fund team will also be on hand to answer your questions. Little builders can even pick up a free kids’ hard hat!
