News BSLM call for abstracts 2020 The BSLM is asking for members to submit abstracts which support the use of lifestyle medicine in clinical practice. Successful applicants will display their poster presentations at the BSLM Conference from 24–26 June 2020. This year, we are also offering a number of student scholarships for the conference. Successful applicants will be able to attend the BSLM conference in June free of charge with a year's free BSLM membership thrown in. BSLM speaker becomes youngest woman to ski to South Pole One of our lineup for the BSLM conference this year is Mollie Hughes from Edinburgh. On January 10 Mollie, 29, became the youngest woman to ski solo to the South Pole—the previous title holder, Vilborg Gissurardóttir, was 32. Mollie will speak at the BSLM Conference in June—details in the events section below. Aberdeen Health and Wellbeing Festival The first ever Aberdeen Health and Wellbeing Festival took place on 25 January. Speakers included BSLM London Director Dr Zoe Williams and Professor Alexandra Johnstone of the Rowett Institute at Aberdeen University. Find out more about the festival here. Here are just a few from the BSLM events page: Wednesday 5–Thursday 6 2020 Joined Up Health presents The 'Lost' Update - two days of "completely different" CPD for primary care professionals. Learn the science behind lifestyle medicine, practical tools and skills for consultations, and strategies for supporting and managing complex patients. Tuesday 25 February 2020 The government is currently reviewing the results of a recent consultation on plans to fortify flour and bread in the UK with folic acid. While this could significantly reduce neural tube defects in fetuses, it may have additional health implications, both positive and negative. This meeting will review these issues, discussing the genetic factors at play and whether other vitamins and minerals should be under consideration for food fortification. The meeting will also explore human fertility issues in light of the proposal. Wednesday 24–Friday 26 2020 Join us for BSLM2020 in Twickenham Stadium, London from June 24th-26th 2020.
