TCD Entrance Exhibitions

We are delighted to have been advised by Trinity College, Dublin that two immediate past pupils of The High School have been awarded Entrance Exhibitions in recognition of their high levels of performance in the Leaving Certificate examinations.  The awards are made to Junior Freshers who achieve the highest points among entrants to full-time undergraduate degree courses at the university from their respective secondary schools.  In 2024, Emily Leonard and Sorcha Murphy (both HSD, 2018-24) achieved this notable distinction and were awarded Entrance Exhibitions at Trinity College, Dublin.  We offer these and all recent past pupils of The High School our warmest congratulations on their achievements and wish them every success in their academic careers.

Ireland Rugby Squad Selection

Congratulations to Ryan Baird (HSD, 2011-14) on his selection to train with the Ireland squad in advance of the Six Nations series.  We wish our past pupil every success as he competes for further honours at international level.

52nd European Karate Championship

We are proud to announce that three pupils from our school have been selected to represent Ireland at the 52nd European Karate Championships in Poland 7- 9 February.  All three will compete in the Kumite (fighting) category, showcasing their skills on an international stage.

Kumite is a demanding and fast-paced form of karate that requires precision, agility, and mental focus.  Competing at this level is an incredible achievement, and we are immensely proud of their accomplishments.  We wish them the best of luck as they prepare to face Europe’s finest karate athletes. They are an inspiration to us all and will undoubtedly represent Ireland and The High School with pride.

Internet Safety Week

This week, as part of Internet Safety Week, pupils from Form 4GY took the lead in promoting awareness about staying safe online.  With the internet playing a significant role in our daily lives, understanding how to navigate it responsibly is more important than ever. To share this message, pupils created vibrant posters filled with helpful advice, which they shared on social media and around the school.  Here are four key tips from their campaign:

Think Before You Post
Always pause and reflect before sharing anything online.  Remember that what you post can stay on the internet forever and may have unintended consequences. Ask yourself, “Would I be comfortable with a teacher, family member, or future employer seeing this?”

Keep Personal Information Private
Never share sensitive information such as your home address, telephone number, or passwords.  Scammers and cybercriminals can misuse even small details, so it’s better to keep them private.

Stay Alert to Scams and Fake Profiles
Be cautious of messages or friend requests from people you don’t know.  Many online scams come disguised as offers or friendly introductions.  Always verify profiles and don’t click on suspicious links.

Treat Others with Kindness
Just as in real life, kindness and respect are essential online.  Avoid engaging in or encouraging cyberbullying, and report inappropriate behavior if you see it.  The internet should be a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

Form 4GY’s posters beautifully illustrate these tips with creative designs and catchy slogans.  Their efforts remind us that a safer online environment begins with responsible behavior from each of us.  Thank you, 4GY, for leading this vital initiative and helping us all to stay safe online!

Happy Internet Safety Week!

Form 4 Sustainability

On Tuesday the Form 4 Sustainability Module class held a Clothes Swap.  Thanks to the generosity of pupils and staff we received a large number of donations.  The remaining clothes from the swap are to be donated to local charity shops, supporting organizations like Oxfam, SVP, and Vision Ireland.  We would like to thank everyone who donated and took clothes from the swap for helping reduce our waste and environmental impact.

Mural
We're all grains of sand who've got a taste for feeling bad
Insatiable impatience leaves us longing for the real things back
Songs and paintings steel the flank, halt the pain and heal us fast
A coffin with a ceiling scratch, the only place we feel intact.

You say it's just an empty stack that honestly inspires
Until your finger finds a needle caught between the fibres
We're lost without a leader we can honestly admire
The speech won't start a fire if you're preaching to the choir
Inspired by the herd, they should burn if they won't listen
You're free to change the world, but the urge will only lessen
Your fists are flat in blessing; now they're only resting
And for your next objection, break the world with a question
The weapons of Socrates; save us our democracy
Endangered by the favours done unto the aristocracy
A nation built on freedom, to choose your own hypocrisy
You're lost in the hot water, but you call yourself the God of sea.
