Meet The New Staff

The new school year at The High School is off to a great start! Pupils and staff are settling into the new term with recreation activities in full swing and sports matches well underway.  Form classes have been assigned and everyone is adjusting to their new timetables.  We are also delighted to welcome some new faces to our campus.  Please join us in extending a warm welcome to our new full-time staff and substitute teachers (from left to right): Ms O'Sullivan (Technological Subjects), Ms Larney (Biology/Science), and Ms Jones (Chemistry/Science).  We are thrilled to have them as part of The High School community.

Karate Ireland Success

Congratulations to Asha Reen and Alex Heneghan who were awarded Gold in the team event and Silver in the individual competition at the British Karate Federation International Open recently.  Both have been selected to represent Karate Ireland at the 13th World Junior, Cadet, and U21 Championships which will be hosted in Italy in October.  We wish our pupils every success when competing at international age grade events.

Ireland Touch Rugby World Cup

Airmid Devitt O' Byrne represented Ireland in Touch Rugby at Senior level and Junior level over the summer.  Airmid is the youngest player at 16 years old to be selected for a senior open team.  She played for the Ireland Women's Open Touch Rugby Team at the 2024 Touch World Cup in Nottingham in July.  In August she represented Ireland in the mixed 18s at the European Championships in Vichy.  They went through the round robin stage unbeaten with victories over Italy, Scotland, Belgium, Cayman Islands and Wales as well as an exciting 10-10 draw against England.  They unfortunately lost to Wales 11-10 and came away with a European Bronze medal.

Hockey Ireland Representation

Congratulations to Hollaí McNamara Quinn, Oscar Pasley, and Robert O'Brien who represented Ireland in hockey tournaments over the summer.  We are equally proud of recent past pupils Ella Pasley (HSD, 2016-22) and Ben Pasley (HSD, 2017-23) who also wore their green jerseys in recent months.  We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our talented pupils and wish them continued success as they pursue their sporting careers.
Mr Fitzpatrick

Irish Aid in Mozambique

Over the summer I had the fantastic experience of travelling to Mozambique, Eswatini, and South Africa where I worked at the Irish Embassy in Maputo. It was an interesting and enlightening experience, and I enjoyed meeting a wide range of people from both Ireland and Mozambique who work in the field of diplomacy. It was particularly inspiring to see the good work done by the Irish Embassy and Irish Aid while in Mozambique, and the highlight of my trip was visiting the Marracuene primary school in the municipality of Guava near Maputo.

Senior Physics

Pupils in Form 6 studying Physics have been conducting an experiment with the Van de Graaf generator, a device used to demonstrate principles of electrostatics by generating high voltages. This hands-on experience allows pupils to deepen their understanding of electrical concepts and their practical applications in the field of Physics.

Past Pupil Single Release

Classically trained pianist, award winning lyricist, and recent High School past pupil Ella-Marie Cullen (HSD, 2018-24) is back with a powerful new single that evokes flavours of Fleetwood Mac and Fiona Apple. Dynamic is an understatement as Ella-Marie transitions seamlessly from vulnerable breathy falsetto to fearsome belts that perfectly paint a complex picture of heartbreak, love, and loss.

Junior Hockey Victories

Earlier this week, the Junior 1 and 2 hockey teams travelled to Kilkenny College to face our opponents: we won both matches.  The Junior 2 team played first and won 3-0. The Junior 1 team had a convincing 6-0 victory to kick off the season.  There were some impressive goals and saves made during the games.  We are excited about collaborating, playing, and progressing together throughout this season.

HSD Rugby Community

On Saturday morning, Form 1 parents came together to savour coffee as their children participated in rugby training and matches.  It provided a delightful opportunity to connect with the school community.

Girls Hockey

Congratulations to the Senior 1 and Minor 1 teams who won their friendly hockey matches against The King's Hospital on Wednesday.  We wish both teams continued success throughout the sporting season ahead!

Boys Hockey

The Senior Boys secured an impressive victory against The King's Hospital this week winning 4-1. This success comes as they gear up for the upcoming All Ireland Schools (Boys) Hockey Championship which is scheduled to take place in Dublin between 23-25 October.  Form 1 and 2 pupils also enjoyed an exciting afternoon of hockey as they competed against The King's Hospital in a blitz competition. Well done, everyone!
