SEYMOUR BOAT RAMP UPGRADE

Minister for Outdoor Recreation Sonya Kilkenny visited Seymour on Friday 31 March to announce upgrades to the Manners Street boat ramp at Lions Park.

The ramp is among several inland ramps prioritised for enhancements, funded through the Victorian Government's Better Boating Fund.

Better Boating Victoria recently enlisted engineering firm Confluence to carry out concept design work for the project.

RAIL TRAIL ART IN MITCHELL SHIRE

Two major art pieces are now in place in Mitchell along the Great Victorian Rail Trail, with all 7 pieces along the trail expected to be completed by the end of April.

The Nook by Donna Marcus can be viewed near the Schoolhouse Lane rail trail car park and Traces by Yu-Fang Chi can be viewed near the Trawool Estate car park.

Murrindindi, Mitchell and Mansfield Shire Councils are working together on this exciting project, which will see 7 major art installations placed along the 134 kilometre trail which goes from Tallarook to Mansfield.

Head to our website for more information about the project.

CAT CURFEW Cats must be at home at night

If you own a cat, or there is a cat living at your house, it must be kept on your property at night time, between sunset and sunrise.

Your cat can still go outside at night, but they must stay on your property. This can be done through fencing, enclosures or by keeping your cat indoors.

The curfew helps keep cats safer, reduce the impact of nuisance cats on the community, protect wildlife and the environment and help to manage feral cats

Animal registrations need to be renewed by 10 April each year.

Are you new to Mitchell Shire, have your contact details changed or is your pet no longer with you?

This will help us to return them if they get lost and helps us get the right information to you when you need it.

Easter eggs in foil

RECYCLE LIKE A PRO THIS EASTER

Did you know Easter egg foil wrappers are recyclable!?

They're too small and light to recycle on their own, but in a big ball (at least the size of a golf ball), you can recycle them in your yellow-lidded recycling bin.

Collect your foil wrappers and scrunch them into a ball. Get the whole family involved and see who can make the biggest foil ball this long weekend.

Easter egg foil is made from aluminium which is a valuable recyclable.

Approximately 75% of aluminium ever produced is still in use today as it can be recycled endlessly without compromising any of its unique properties or quality.

Aluminium’s lifecycle provides significant benefits through recycling, saving 95% of the energy it would take to make new aluminium metal – so don’t let those small pieces of precious metals go to waste.

SEYMOUR POOL Indoor pool temporary closure

The indoor pool at the Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre will be closed from Saturday 8 April for approximately four weeks for maintenance works and upgrades.

The pool’s heating system requires an upgrade and while the pool is drained, damaged tiles will be replaced, grouting redone and a commercial-grade clean completed.

While these repairs are being undertaken, there will be no access to the pool for lap swimming, aqua play or aqua classes.

We're also upgrading gym equipment, the stadium floor, adding new carpet in the foyer and new chairs in the pool deck.

FIRE RESTRICTIONS Fire Danger Period ends soon

The CFA have announced the Fire Danger Period in Mitchell Shire ends at 1am on Tuesday 11 April.

No Council permits to burn will be granted during the Fire Danger Period. While fire restrictions will lift, there are still rules to follow for burning off.

In residential areas and properties under 0.4ha (1 acre) and semi-rural areas over 0.4ha, you can only burn off on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 10am and 3pm. You will need a permit to burn off outside of these times.

If you live in a rural area, you can burn off at any time.

Even if you don’t need a permit to burn, all fires must be registered on the CFA website or by calling 1800 668 511
