Dear friend of Ausfilm,

Thank you for your generous time and expert insights during the Workforce Capacity Working Group’s informal consultation process.

We are pleased to release the four resources that have been informed by stakeholder consultations. These include:

1. Ausfilm’s Research Report to the Working Group

2. Australian Screen Workforce Development Framework *

3 & 4. Australian Screen Sector Roles:
→ Physical & Post Production
- A PDF document listing over 230 roles
→ Visual Effects (VFX), Animation & Virtual Production (VP) - A PDF document listing over 180 roles

Information about Ausfilm resources:

1. Ausfilm’s Research Report to the Working Group outlines the research methodology and lists key findings from the research undertaken on behalf of the working group. The report outlines suggested actions recommended by stakeholders and identified by the research. The research paper has informed the draft Australian Screen Workforce Development Framework, which has been delivered to the Workforce Capacity Working Group to prioritise the collaborative actions identified in the report, and to establish working relationships with industry partners to deliver on, and continuously monitor, the objectives of the framework.

2. Ausfilm is delighted to announce the publication of two career resources aimed at raising awareness of Australian screen careers. These career resources list descriptions of over 400 industry crew roles, and provide more than 20 department hierarchy maps to demonstrate career progression opportunities in the sector.

We welcome the recent announcements made by Workforce Capacity Working Group members of a variety of career-boosting and skills-development initiatives and opportunities that have been developed on the back of this work.

The resources have been created with Australia’s Screen Craft Guilds and senior members of the Below-the-Line Workforce, and have been developed by Ausfilm in response to key findings from research undertaken on behalf of the Workforce Capacity Working Group. We would like to thank all the expert contributors to these important resources.

Ausfilm continues to support international clients by providing expert advice and information on the Australian screen industry and connections to Australian screen businesses, talent and skills and training opportunities. These industry resources are aimed at increasing visibility of all below-the-line crew roles and foster deeper collaborations between industry, government and education stakeholders in developing Australia’s below-the-line workforce. We hope that this is the beginning of many more conversations and collaborations to make the Australian screen sector the career destination of choice for future generations.
