We strolled up to our team meeting in C9, ready to focus on the game ahead. During the meeting, our coaches went over our regular tactics and game plans, reinforcing key strategies and reassuring us before the big match. Finally, we left the meeting and boarded the bus en route to the awaited venue—Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club—where we would face Wesley College in the Leinster Senior Cup final. The whistle blew and the game was finally underway. A strong period of focus and effort led to an evenly contested first quarter from our perspective. Mr Howard's encouraging words at the quarter-time break reinforced our game plan, and we went into the second quarter determined not to drop our intensity. Unfortunately, our opponents scored the first goal—a relatively soft one to concede at a difficult time. Shortly after they netted a second and a sense of frustration crept in. However, a long aerial ball from Jason Robinson at right-back found Harry Kyle in right midfield, leading to a crucial short corner. A well-executed routine and a powerful drag flick from Robert O’Brien brought the score to 2-1 at a pivotal moment, reigniting our energy and determination as we reached half time. However, the third and fourth quarters were largely one-sided. The opposition played fast-paced, clinical, team hockey scoring four additional goals with precision. Despite the challenging scoreline, we never stopped giving 100% effort. The final whistle blew with the score at 6-1 to the opposition, marking a disappointing end to our season. Although the result was disheartening, we were all incredibly proud of reaching this stage after such a tough year. For the Form 6 players, it was an unfortunate farewell match, but I believe they were grateful to end their school hockey journey in a cup final. On behalf of the team, I’d like to thank Mr Howard, Mr
Fitzpatrick, and Ms Gray for their incredible dedication, expert coaching, and hard work throughout the season.
