We invite you all to a research seminar series, organised by the UGent Centre for Bantu Studies (BantUGent). This Centre stands for a transdisciplinary approach to the past and present of Bantu languages, Bantu speech communities and their (im)material worlds, both in Africa and in the diaspora.

L'Histoire de Souleymane - FREE SCREENING + debate - 14/5/2025

The movie follows Souleymane, a young man who escaped violence in Guinea, as he attempts to navigate life as an undocumented migrant in France.

After the screening, we'll be hosting a short debate with Ghent University and CESSMIR, the university's Centre for the Social Study of Migration and Refugees.

Doctoral School Specialist Course: Phonetics as a key method for language description and documentation - 14-16/5/2025
 

BantUGent is pleased to announce that from Wednesday May 14 to Friday May 16, Prof. Dr. Didier Demolin (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris) will teach a Specialist Course on "Phonetics as a key method for language description and documentation".

Aspects that will be covered include, but are not limited to, articulatory phonetics, aerodynamics, acoustics, tone and the practical use of Praat/WinPitch.
