Meet the researchers of the Congolines project - 7/12/2024

On December 7, to mark the close of the second year of the Congolines project’s investigation, the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR) is organizing a second public meeting with the project’s researchers, coordinated by the Royal Museum for Central Africa, in partnership with KBR, UNIKIN (Kinshasa, DRC), and Ghent University.

The primary aim of the project’s researchers is to recontextualize the phenomenon of drawing on paper in the Belgian Congo in the first half of the 20th century.

Human Rights Week 2024 ‘Frontlines of Human Rights’ - 9-13/12/2024

From 9 to 13 December 2024, the Human Rights Research Network (HRRN) at Ghent University invites you to participate in Human Rights Week, a series of events marking the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 December.

This year’s theme, “Frontlines of Human Rights,” highlights the diverse and often dangerous spaces where human rights defenders—ranging from journalists and artists to activists, researchers, and local community actors—stand at the forefront of struggles. These “frontlines” are not just physical battlefields but also metaphorical spaces where human rights are contested, uncovered, defended, and fought for.

ECAS 2025: Papers invited for CRG Africa in the Indian Ocean panel - deadline: 15/12/2024

We are pleased to inform you that the ECAS 2025 paper submission period has opened. Authors can now submit papers to our panel, entitled “Afropolitanism in the African Indian Ocean [CRG Africa in the Indian Ocean panel]”, which has been accepted for the upcoming ECAS 2025.

Indian Ocean Afropolitanism has attempted to reconcile cosmopolitanism with African belonging within Oceanic settings of mobility and has interacted with debates on pan-Africanism and nationalism. The panel will discuss political and cultural expressions of this in historical perspective.

Open Doors Fellowship Program: Applications are open! Deadline: 31/12/2024

The Open Doors Fellowship Program, coordinated by IPBO (International Plant Biotechnology Outreach) in collaboration with VLIR-UOS, UGent and the Fernand Lambein Fund, is currently accepting applications from post-doctoral and mid-career women scientists in African research centers.

The program is designed to equip participants with new skills, foster professional networks, and enhance scientific visibility to ensure talents remain into the scientific pipeline.

Bike trip through Uganda for Ghent University alumni - 11-22/2/2025

Onze sportieve UGent-alumni zijn welkom in februari 2025 om deel te nemen aan een avontuurlijke fietstocht door Oeganda!

Tegelijkertijd steunen en bezoeken de deelnemers het project 'Kampala Head Trauma Awareness and 3D printing Cranioplasty for Skull Defect'. Dit project wordt uitgevoerd aan het universitair ziekenhuis van de Makerere University door Prof. Moses Galukande en Dr. Hervé Monka Lekuya in nauwe samenwerking met Prof. Edward Baert (UZ/UGent). Deelnemers zullen onder begeleiding van de leidinggevenden het project kunnen bezoeken.

Deze reis zal worden gekoppeld aan een institutionele reis naar Oeganda, onder leiding van de UGent vicerector.
