Leinster Schools League Final

We are extremely proud of The High School Senior Girls' Rugby team for the outstanding performance, determination, and hard work that led them to qualify for the Leinster Schools Senior League final for the second consecutive year. They will be playing against Wilson's Hospital School, Loreto College Mullingar, and Newbridge College from 11.30 am Tuesday, 10 December in Donnybrook Stadium.  Their dedication and teamwork have truly paid off and we commend each member of the squad for their contribution to date.  We send our best wishes to all the players for continued success on the field as they prepare for the forthcoming competition.
Mr McDermott

Hockey Ireland Squad Selections

Congratulations to past pupils Conor Empey (HSD, 2011-17), Alistair Empey (HSD, 2013-19), and Ben Pasley (HSD, 2017-23) who have been selected for the Ireland squad which will compete in the FIH Pro League in 2024-25.  We wish our past pupils every success as they compete for further honours at international level.

HSD Christmas Cards

This festive season HSD Christmas cards are available for purchase offering the school community a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer while supporting a meaningful cause. Created by our talented Form 4 pupils as part of their Business Studies module in collaboration with the Art and Languages departments, these bespoke cards are being sold to raise funds for Children’s Health Ireland (formerly Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin).

Each card is priced at €2 with a pack of five available for €5.  For those interested in larger quantities, a pack of ten cards can be purchased for €10, and twenty cards are available for €18.  Cards can be purchased during Junior and Senior lunch breaks outside The Reynolds Hall with payments accepted in cash or by card.  Every purchase helps to make a difference!  Let’s come together as a school community to support this initiative and brighten the lives of children in need this Christmas season.

Christmas Market

Pupils are invited to participate by arrangement in the HSD Christmas Market next Thursday from 10.20 am through to 11.15 am.  This festive event is not only a great opportunity to get into the holiday spirit but also a chance to support charity.  Bring your cards and cash to enjoy shopping for gifts and delicious food while contributing to a good cause.  Don't miss out on this wonderful initiative - see you there.

Form 6 Music

This week the Senior Music class went on an excursion to the National Concert Hall for an exclusive performance of Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. The performance featured a detailed analysis of the piece's myriad movements given by a presenter with the ability to stop, start, and replay the live orchestra's every move.  Overall, the performance served up a new dimension of understanding for everyone present and the music is sure to be echoing in our heads until next June.

Advent Appeal

We should like to thank everyone who has already contributed to The High School Advent Appeal for the homeless organised by Form 3 pupils.  Your support and kindness are making a significant difference in the lives of those in need.  For those who haven't had a chance yet, there is still an opportunity for you to participate and make a positive impact.  Donation boxes have been placed at Reception, providing a convenient way for pupils to contribute.  We kindly request donations of s new items such as small toys, dried food, and sweets, as well as new hats, scarves, gloves, along with men’s and women’s underwear, and socks.  These essential items will go a long way to providing warmth and comfort this winter.  Thank you for your support!

Form 1 Rugby

This week the HSD Form 1 rugby team achieved second place in a blitz against Wesley College, Wilson's Hospital School, and De la Salle College. Our pupils performed exceptionally well and enjoyed themselves despite the challenging weather conditions. Congratulations to everyone involved!

HSD Rugby

It has been an action-packed week for HSD Rugby.  The Form 1 team faced Terenure College last Wednesday, securing one victory and narrowly losing the other match. Meanwhile, the Junior team travelled to Naas for their semi-final, which resulted in a hard-fought draw.  This means a replay is scheduled to take place at home next Wednesday and all support is welcome.  Exciting news also for the Senior team, as it was confirmed this morning that they will play their semi-final away against St Andrew's College next Wednesday.  The best of luck to all our teams in their upcoming matches!

Senior Hockey

Last week the Senior 1 Girls' Hockey team faced a tough challenge in their first cup match at home against a very strong Mount Anville side. Although the result didn't go their way, the team will now compete in the Plate competition.  We wish the players the very best of luck as they continue their journey in this exciting tournament!

Locker Clearance

A reminder to all pupils that they should empty their lockers and bring all personal belongings home before the end of the Autumn Term to allow for routine maintenance.

You know it's Christmas when the Scouts start selling their trees.  Many of our current and former pupils are involved with the 31st Rathfarnham Scouts who offer beautiful fresh Christmas trees to families in the area every year.  The trees are available for purchase at the War Memorial Hall in Rathfarnham from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm, seven days a week. If you live in Terenure, they will even deliver the tree on foot!  You can also place orders online through their social media channels.
