Celebrating 500 years!

Welcome back to Sedbergh!

The new school year is underway and, true to tradition, our 90 new Year 9 pupils began their Sedbergh journey with a climb to the summit of Winder, proudly raising their House flags at the top. It is a symbolic start — a reminder of the resilience, ambition, and camaraderie that will carry them through their years at Sedbergh.

As we look ahead, it is also a moment to celebrate the successes of our pupils who received their exam results over the summer. Our A Level and BTEC pupils secured places at top universities in the UK and overseas, alongside highly competitive degree apprenticeships, while our GCSE pupils achieved excellent results that open the way to their chosen Sixth Form pathways. These outcomes reflect the breadth of opportunities Sedbergh offers, and the individual journeys our pupils take with the support of their teachers and boarding community.

This term, we are sharing many of these stories online — voices of pupils who have combined academic achievement with sport, music, leadership, and new opportunities, showing what it means to be a Sedberghian today.

We are proud of every pupil’s pathway and look forward to the year ahead with confidence and excitement.

Celebrating the Class of 2025

We extend our warmest congratulations to the Class of 2025. Many of our 2025 leavers are now poised to embark on exciting journeys at top universities, in specialised vocational training, and in pursuits across the creative and athletic spectrum. Our pupil’s success is a testament to their own potential and hard work, nurtured within a school culture that believes in “each to their own greatness.”

“We are immensely proud of the pupils and their fantastic achievements today. The vast array of destinations that will be the next stage for our pupils evidences the many talents and ambitions that we have had the pleasure of supporting and developing during their time at Sedbergh. It is clear to see that their hard work has paid off, and we wish them the very best as they embark on the exciting next chapter of their pathway journeys.”  Deputy Head Academic, Abby Stubbs

Star Performances from our GCSE Class of 2025

We are immensely proud of last year's GCSE pupils and we congratulate them on their results. All of our pupils made meaningful strides and we look forward to welcoming these pupils back as they step into Sixth Form in a little over a week.

"I don’t think there is a better environment to pursue both sport and academics, in terms of the convenience of facilities, the time available, and the support at your disposal." Hugo

"In the past year, I have developed my academic discipline, organisational skills, effective methods for both learning and studying, time management, and knowledge base. This gives me confidence for the academic specialisation to come, and a sense that a strong foundation has been built." Ava

"I am really happy with my grades and that my hard work paid off. For me the process showed me that I benefit from a good balance. Having time to study but balancing that with time for exercise and time for relaxation." Jonah

An evening with Christopher Hirst

This special evening will explore the remarkable journey of Major Arthur Lupton. In 1925, at the age of 46 — with modest cricketing ability but unwavering leadership — Lupton captained what many regard as Yorkshire’s finest ever XI to their fourth consecutive County Championship title. His path, from the fells of Sedbergh to the battlefields of two world wars and into the heart of Yorkshire cricketing folklore, is a powerful reflection of the quiet strength and resilience forged by the Sedbergh spirit.
