Welcome to the June edition of the Salamanca Market stallholder news Hi everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the weekend of lovely weather, although chilly, it was great to see the sun out! As you know, we continue to work on finalising the Licence Agreements for the new financial year I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the Salamanca Market Team, and also the entire City of Hobart team who continue to support us with this huge body of work! It was great to spend a few hours down at the market on Saturday with my parents who were visiting from the mainland. Listening and watching them puruse and take genuine interest in the market, reminded me why Salamanca is as iconic as it is. My mum made a few purchases, and the importance to her was the locally-grown and created products - it truly is what makes Salamanca so special! Oh, and my son and I loved our lunch from Pocket Curries! Dark Mofo is just around the corner, and I know this brings some operational challenges with bump-in, bump-out and parking. Thank you for your patience with this major event that truly puts Tassie on the map in winter. I hope you all benefit from the increase we will see in visitors over the next 2 weeks. Looking forward to meeting more of you down at the market in the coming weeks. Tristan Merrett - Manager Welcome Pad Above Tassie Devils by Tasmanian Softies Stallholder Grievances We were recently asked what stallholders can do if they have a grievance with another stallholder, a contractor, crew or an admin team member. On a market day, your first contact is the Market Supervisor on 0419 482 675. However, if you feel uncomfortable contacting the Supervisor, you also have the option of speaking with Thea Webb or Amelia Barber (Stallholder Coordinators), Taryn Townsend (Senior Commercial Advisor) on 6238 2875 during work hours or Tristan Merrett (Manager Welcome Pad) on 6238 2562 or email Salamanca Market admin. The team treats all stallholder grievances with the view to resolve amicably and with respect. Above A red record. Hobart Airport Store Opportunity The manager of the Tasmania and Beyond store in the Hobart Airport, Liam Bloomfield, has contacted us to let stallholders know there is an opportunity for your product to be stocked at the airport. If you would like to find out more, please use this link: Above Red wooden cherries. Dark Mofo + social media promotion If you are making any Dark Mofo related or inspired products please let us know! We would like to promote these on our social media pages. Please email us at salamancamarket@hobartcity.com.au, send us a few photos and let us know what winter things you are doing! Stallholders are welcome to dress up their stalls for Dark Mofo and we would encourage getting into the festival spirit as per previous years. It's certainly a good pop of colour on a winter's day. If you have a great display at the market, don't forget to tag us in your social media posts so we can reshare them - @salamancamarket or #salamancamarket Above A red dinosaur woollen toy Patron count and onsite surveys Myriad Research will be back at the market for two market days on 10 and 17 June 2023 from 8am to count patrons and conduct an in-depth survey with a range of patrons. Myriad staff will be identified wearing a lanyard, hi-vis vest and carrying an iPad. Over the course of this year, this service will occur on eight occasions and this will be the fifth and sixth count and survey day so far. Gathering this data will refresh our understanding of visiting patrons, the economic contribution the market makes to the state, along with a range of other measures. Once the report has been delivered to the City of Hobart, we will be able to share findings and any improvements we might make as a result. Beaker Street Festival is coming to Salamanca Market on 5 August 2023. The program, The Beaker Street Crawl, will be kicking off at the market this year and they are looking for stallholders that would like to be involved. To do so, you would need to provide a scientific offering. This may sound alarming, but everything is scientific if you look at it the right way. An offering could be as simple as explaining the method of how something is made (e.g distilling gin, carding wool, dying fabric, blowing glass) or providing a demonstration, but we challenge you to go as hard as you want! Bring those not-quite-right samples, call in your best mate who is a beekeeper, push the boundaries and show the unseen. Beaker Street will be occupying a stall near the Info Booth, sending punters throughout the market and the city to the Crawl participants and parading a marching band up and down the market throughout the day - come say hello and have a dance at the biggest nerd party in town. The volunteers have been relocated into a branded marquee for the next few market days and the booth's expected to return in July. Above Red enamel buttons. Update your website page Each year thousands of people visit the Salamanca Market website and are often looking for information about a particular stall, stallholder contact details, or searching for a product. Your stallholder page is an important way you can promote your business for free. Please note that updates to the stallholder pages will be an ongoing project and will occur over several months. Above red roses. Welcome and farewell A warm welcome to Rockwell at the Market this Saturday, who are at site 311. Your ideas are welcome! This is your stallholder newsletter and we welcome new ideas. If you would like to see something different or have an idea for the next newsletter, let us know at salamancamarket@hobartcity.com.au |
