European Lifestyle Medicine Symposium: Why is this event so important? With an extract from out May Summit Executive Summary As mentioned in previous newsletters, we had a May Summit in Alicante for our upcoming joint event with the Spanish Institute of Lifestyle Medicine, European Lifestyle Medicine Symposium in October this year. We wanted to shed some light as to why this collaborative event is so important to the landscape of Lifestyle Medicine in Europe, with an excerpt from the Executive Summary from our May Meeting: "An additional, and no less important, goal of the meeting was to agree to collaborate as a group of Lifestyle Medicine organisations on areas such as Policy, Advocacy and Research. To that end, attendees at the Summit included leaders from the European Lifestyle Medicine Council (ELMC), European Lifestyle Medicine Organisation (ELMO), and the Mediterranean Lifestyle Medicine Institute (MLMI). Delegates were truly representative of Lifestyle Medicine across Europe, coming from as far north as Norway and as far South as Spain, with Portugal in the west and Romania in the East. The different experiences of Lifestyle Medicine in each of these countries brought an exciting and dynamic cultural mix to the summit, resulting in a robust discussion around a Lifestyle Medicine position statement, research and policy priorities, and a commitment to work together in the name of Lifestyle Medicine. Above all it was agreed that Europe should proceed as a group in an inclusive, equitable and collaborative way, valuing all viewpoints and acknowledging regional variation in the implementation of Lifestyle Medicine. Moreover, we welcome as equal partners, all healthcare practitioners, be they doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, coaches, or social prescribers, thus recognising the need for multi-disciplinary teams and systems to tackle the growing problem of lifestyle related diseases." We can't wait to invite you to Alicante at Melia Alicante from the 7-9th of October 2024, what a way to beat the post-BSLM24-conference-blues!
