INSIDER EXPERIENCE: A DAY ON TOUR WITH ROBERT

Your guide is the conductor of your journey in Africa. He or she is responsible for shepherding you safely to and from your destinations as well as through the bush. A guide's role is so much more than showing you the wonderful wildlife of the African bush, it is also ensuring that your safari is one to remember. Practically all guides chose their profession because of their passion for Africa, its wildlife and a passion for sharing that with the rest of the world. The job requires extensive training and often results in long periods of time away from family and friends. You might find yourself wondering about the behind the scenes action of a safari? We've spoken to Robert, one of our Jenman guides, about a typical day on tour. To find out more, click the link below.

UNIQUE BUCK OF BOTSWANA

Botswana is home to one of the most unique species of antelope found on the African landscape, the Red Lechwe, one of the only two places where the rare type of buck is found. In the Okavango Delta, these reddish, stout little buck are often seen frolicking through the marshes in great numbers and have cleverly adapted to their watery homes with special long splayed, hooves and oily, water-repelling hindlegs. Unlike most buck the newborns are not able to walk immediately but require some time to lie hidden in the reeds for a few weeks. All this and more make the Red Lechwe a truly unique buck of Botswana.

SALES TIP: SEASONS OF BOTSWANA

Botswana is certainly one of the top safari destinations. The country has some of the best national parks and game reserves in Africa and the diversity of wildlife on offer is astounding. As the seasons in Botswana change, so do the safari highlights. From when the Okavango is flooded full with water from Angola after May and nighttime is a chorus of cacophonous frogs, to drier times when elephants and buffalo congregate on the waterholes in magnificent numbers, as do opportunistic predators. Every month brings something different to experience so it all depends on what you are looking for. Download the PDF for each month's experience.
