From the Editor's DeskSo, if you've been around our website lately, there were some ... interesting issues. A massive thank you from not only our core club members, but additionally everyone who uses our website to find our event schedule, view the current results and points, and so on is in order. So please, as you see Markus Houser around, give him a big thank you, for his technical expertise and getting our website back on track!
Note from the R.E.I was going to write a quick note last month, because July is my birthday month, and favorite month of the year. I turned 40 this year, and man, in true race car fashion…it came in hot! I completely pulled my back out, having to miss our recent events, and I also got the world’s biggest bug bite and got diagnosed with Lyme Disease.
Thankfully my back is mostly on the mend, and I’m just about done with my Lyme antibiotics! I hope that this was just life playing a weird trick on me, and not a sign of things to come in my old age. As you’re reading this, I will have competed in my first events…you know, since I was in my thirties! I hope you’re all enjoying the summer, and the events. I hope to get back and compete in the last Rallycross of the season, bookending the season with my incredible (disgusting) Subaru. And, I look forward to my upcoming Autocross events in the wonderful, and thankfully not disgusting MR2. I
look forward to seeing you there! Keep it classy Susquehanna,
Melissa Mauro, Regional Executive
Beat The Heat!By Nick Landis Hello my friends, As you all know we're in our 2nd year of the RallySprint
program in the Susquehanna Region. If you've never been to a RallySprint and are curious, I would like to invite you to come out and check it out. If you've been out to a RallyCoss event and enjoyed it, you'll definitely love RallySprint. The course is much different as are the vehicles. When you come out, you can expect to see a lot of noticeable differences. The first being that we host our events in the woods which makes it difficult to see the entire course at once. We also do not have issues with the dust that we do at RallyCoss due to the trees. The next difference you'll see is the lack of cones. Our course is defined by the road and natural objects like trees and rocks. The last big differences are that we have zero restrictions on speed and we have 2 noticeable features designed to send the vehicles airborne. You will see
fully prepared vehicles flying through the air and sliding around corners at high-speed. We also feed all of our volunteers, making this not only the easiest worker assignment, but one that comes with free food. So, I invite you all to come out and bring your friends and family (over 16 please) to volunteer at the next RallySprint on Saturday August 27th.
Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally
Inspired by the nationally-known (but in no way affiliated) Lemons Rally, the Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally is designed to provide an enjoyable drive through the countryside while conducting a Scavenger Hunt. This “Rally” is a social event and is not based on accurate time and distance – in fact, each team picks their own route to maximize points the way that suits each team the best. Scoring is based on the ability of the team to use clues to find target locations, while leaving enough time to find their own way to back to the start point in the allotted time frame. Each team will be provided with a packet with rules and instructions on how to post pictures on instagram to mark way-points and collect points. Someone on your team needs an instagram account for your
team to get points! This is a great opportunity to get younger family members involved in a driving activity. This event will take place rain or shine. Only extreme weather conditions warrant cancellation.
A Road Rally is not a race! OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS. The roads are challenging, sharp curves, steep climbs and wildlife crossings all combined with an unknown route. The driver and navigator must work together to stay alert while looking for clues. Speed does not improve the score. Bring water for the team, and fuel up when you can there isn’t any sweep car…it’s up to the team to make it back

’22 RallyCross Nats Preview, Plus Finding Local EventsAUG 11, 2022 — It wasn’t long ago that we announced the 2022 RallyCross National Championship would be heading to Colorado on Sept. 23-25 for the first time in more than a decade, with Colorado RallyCross – a Colorado and Continental Divide Region collaboration – poised to host the title
RallyCross event just a few miles from where the RallyCross National Championship was hosted in 2009-’10. But while locals will have an idea of what the surface and facility hold in store, those traveling from outside the area are undoubtedly hunting for a sneak peek. Luckily, we have just that.
Check It Out: RoadRally Late Summer and Fall EventsAUG 3, 2022 — SCCA RoadRallys are afternoon drives – with dedicated purpose – on public roads through gorgeous environs. A RoadRally is a combination of logic puzzle, scavenger hunt, and intentional (and very specific) cruising. In short, an SCCA RoadRally is one of the most enjoyable and challenging ways to spend a day – and there are numerous days coming up that you won’t want to miss. The most accessible form of automotive competition, RoadRally is an activity that has just about 75 years of history with the Club. Best of all, no special licenses or equipment are required. Just stay on route and on time, and don’t lose focus. Easy, right?
Hagerty Feature: Autocross, Gateway to MotorsportsAUG 18, 2022 — SCCA Autocross is one of the Club’s most accessible forms of motorsports. With little more than a mechanically-sound car and an affordable helmet (or even a loaner), anyone can feel the rush of adrenaline as they push their vehicle to the limit in a safe environment. Through the decades, autocross has arguably become the backbone of the Club, being a sport that’s as easy to access as it is difficult to master. And recently, Hagerty took notice of the sport in a feature on their Hagerty
Media website.
SCCA Solo Nationals: A Novice’s PerspectiveAUG 8, 2022 — As the title suggests, I am still fairly new to the world of SCCA motorsports. My adventure into driving began back in June of 2019 thanks to my father, Bill Boy, who fostered my racing interest, and a friendly colleague, Jason Gast, who playfully pestered me into attending the novice school his Region, Indiana Northwest Region, was hosting. My weekend was spent speeding around a parking lot and picking up cones during coursework. When I returned the next weekend for an event by another Region, Jason
nodded knowingly saying, “New drivers either never show up again, or they’re hooked. And here you are.”
