The Nova Scotia Pineapple Awards are a Celebration of our Pride in Service and a recognition of the individuals who go above and beyond what is expected to enrich a visitor's stay in Nova Scotia.
Making an extra effort can come in so many ways. We want to recognize the extraordinary service performed here in
Nova Scotia by our tourism professionals. In light of the challenging years for Tourism we feel it is high time to praise and commend the actions of our peers, once again.
DID SOMEONE GO THE EXTRA MILE?
The role of the tourism professional is an extremely important one. They set the tone for hospitality in our province. Sometimes there are opportunities to surprise a visitor or customer with some extraordinary service or an act of kindness or, to help out in a special, unexpected way. This is simply doing what Nova Scotians do best; listening to what people say, and may not say, in order to make them feel appreciated and respected. This “going the extra mile” is what the Pineapple Awards Program encourages and celebrates.

LEGEND OF THE
PINEAPPLE
A centuries-old symbol of greeting and generous hospitality, The Pineapple is native to South America and was conveyed to Europe by the early explorers. As popularity grew, it was featured in architecture, art, and furniture. European colonists brought the now familiar pineapple to North America. Our seafaring ancestors placed a pineapple on their porch, door, or entrance after returning from a long voyage, welcoming visitors into their home to celebrate, announcing to all "Our voyage is over, our door is open, food and drink for everyone!" Thus the pineapple has
become an international symbol of hospitality and is widely displayed in residences and business establishments, extending a warm welcome to all that visit.
