VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Help promote Mitchell Shire

The Seymour Visitor Information Centre is looking for new volunteers.

Volunteers at the Seymour Visitor Information Centre play an important role in helping visitors navigate our Shire and find its hidden gems.

It doesn't require a huge time commitment and it's a great way to meet new people.

No formal experience is needed but a friendly and welcoming personality and local knowledge are essential.

WHERE DO YOU STAND ON THE QUARRY DAN ANDREWS?

The Beveridge North West Precinct Structure Plan Ministerial Advisory Committee Hearing concluded on Tuesday and now it's up to the Victorian Government to make the final decision on the proposed quarry for Beveridge/Wallan.

Council has maintained its clear position against the quarry and the severe implications it will have on our existing and future communities.

There was clear and thorough evidence put to the Advisory Committee in relation to the existing and future supply of hard rock in Melbourne’s north which proved there was simply no need for this quarry. By comparison to existing quarries and others that are permitted, if approved the proposed quarry would contribute a very small and insignificant amount of basalt to the market.

Council hopes the Minister for Planning will carefully consider the overwhelming community opposition to the quarry demonstrated through submissions, a petition with more than 1600 signatures and the recent demonstration on the steps of Parliament House.
