Joint CliMigHealth – UNU-CRIS – ITIM Working Seminar - 14/6

The influence of migration on women’s access to and utilization of healthcare in the Gambia: an Augmented Inverse Probability of Treatment Weighting analysis

The Gambia is the smallest country on the African continent, but it is experiencing significant flows of both internal and international migrants. However, there is a dearth of research examining whether migration has implications for the access to and utilization of healthcare. Hence, it is imperative to assess the country’s progress towards the UN’s sustainable goal 17, aiming to ensure healthy lives and to promote the well-being of all at all ages. During this working seminar, we will present the preliminary results of an empirical study intended to fill this gap.

Symposium - The potential of genome editing for sustainable African agriculture

30 June & 1 July 2022

Innovations and their integration into farming practices have always been vital for agriculture and food production. Breeding new plant varieties is not a simple, nor a rapid process. Genome editing is a transformative innovation for improved breeding accuracy, allowing scientists to make targeted genetic changes.

With this symposium we want to understand the state of the art and the potential of the genome editing to be transformative towards a more resilient and sustainable African agriculture. We will elaborate on the ongoing research, the regulatory framework and the socio-economic potential of this technology for the African continent.
