In this issue, we are promoting our ongoing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) journey that started in the early days of 2019. We are very proud of the great work carried out by our EDI team who work hard to promote diversity and inclusivity not only within our organisation, but also across the whole maritime sector. The work of our EDI team has also been recognised at the Maritime UK Awards 2023 where we were among the finalists for the Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award. In this issue, we are also revealing the findings of the research around the port-based welfare needs of women seafarers, which we funded. We are also sharing the International Chamber of Shipping's joint open letter with another 30+ organisations – including The Seafarers’ Charity – which urges the United Nations to prioritise the immediate release of seafarers still trapped in Ukrainian ports. Finally, we would like to remind you that London Marathon 2023 is fast approaching. If you were thinking of joining #TeamSeafarersKGFS to raise funds for seafarers in need and their families, this is your chance! Best wishes, Editor The Seafarers' Charity shortlisted among the finalists of the Maritime UK Awards 2023We are so proud that our EDI work has been recognised and that we were shortlisted as finalists for the Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award at this year's Maritime UK Awards held in Hull yesterday. We would like to congratulate the winner, Shoreham Port, for winning the award, and the fellow finalist, The Diversity Study Group, as well as all other winners and finalists at last night's excellent event. At The Seafarers’ Charity, we welcome and celebrate all groups irrespective of their background and identity. In 2020, we established a staff-led EDI group who meet regularly to discuss race, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability, mental health and other subjects around diversity. We have recently updated our website to reflect our EDI journey and we are so proud of what we have achieved to date, but there is still a lot to work on to make the maritime sector more inclusive and diverse as a whole.
