NAIDOC WEEK 2022

NAIDOC Week was celebrated at a Seymour Local Aboriginal Network event on Thursday 7 July.

The popular event saw people checking out stalls from local service providers and and enjoying some fun family activities.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

Mitchell Shire Council is committed to working collaboratively to build a fair and equitable community for all.

NEW DEVELOPMENT Growth a constant in Mitchell

Mitchell Shire is becoming the face of Melbourne's growth story, with another new development beginning.

Construction has started at Stockland Lyra, a $555 million community in Beveridge.

The 140-hectare community will become home to approximately 1,400 households.

Construction is now underway on the early civil works to prepare the site for residents to build their new homes, which are expected to start from mid-2023.

Find out more about the project on the developer's website.

NO QUARRY FOR BEVERIDGE/WALLAN
TELL NEW PLANNING MINISTER 'NO QUARRY'

The proposed quarry at 175 Northern Highway Wallan is not a done deal and with a new Planning Minister sworn in last week, we have a fresh opportunity to share our concerns and have our voices heard.

Ms Lizzie Blandthorn replaces Richard Wynne, who will retire from politics after the state election, as the Victorian Planning Minister.

Council has maintained its strong position against the quarry and the severe implications it will have on our existing and future communities.

Council hopes the Minister for Planning will carefully consider the overwhelming community opposition to the quarry demonstrated through submissions, a petition with more than 1600 signatures and the demonstration on the steps of Parliament House.

Visit our website for details about how you can share your concerns with Planning Minister Lizzie Blandthorn and other MPs.
