Celebrating World Environment Day:
NWTD's commitment to a greener futureAs we mark World Environment Day in June, TasNetworks is proud to highlight the environmental stewardship embedded in the NWTD project, supported by detailed assessment, planning, design and community engagement. This transformative infrastructure project is designed not only to support Tasmania’s renewable energy future but also
to minimise its environmental footprint. TasNetworks is stiving to achieve a ‘Bronze’ Design and As Built Rating for the project under the Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s Rating Scheme. Read more
Geotechnical investigations continueAs part of the final design process for NWTD, geotechnical investigations are currently underway along the proposed route. These studies involve examining the soil and rock conditions to help engineers design safe
and reliable tower foundations. By understanding the ground beneath the surface, we can minimise environmental impact, select the most stable and efficient locations for infrastructure, and reduce the risk of construction delays. The information gathered also helps us protect against issues such as flooding, landslides, and erosion, ensuring the transmission lines are built to last and operate safely for years to come.
Permit application available on TPC websiteDocumentation for the NWTD permit application can now be accessed online via the Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC) website. This follows lodgement of the permit application to the TPC in April - an important step which allows NWTD to be formally assessed before TasNetworks can proceed to the construction phase.
