This month we are very pleased to share with you our latest public report, A crisis of sustainable careers? Examining working conditions for independent arts and cultural workers, which we have developed with four external expert authors, Laurence Cuny, Xin Gu, Martin Inthamoussú and Ammar Kessab. Prepared between January and September 2022, the report explores the social and economic aspects of working conditions in the cultural and creative sectors (such as social security, safety nets, salary standards, taxation, pensions, legislation), with a particular focus on artists and independent cultural workers. The report provides practical case studies to show how positive policies have been made and implemented in different world regions and identifies opportunities for governments and their public agencies to further strengthen working conditions, as we build back better in post-pandemic times. Our report is available here for download in English and Spanish and has been generously supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria (an IFACCA Affiliate Member).

The release of A crisis of sustainable careers? also marks an important step in the journey towards the 9th World Summit on Arts and Culture on Safeguarding Artistic Freedom. The working conditions of artists and independent cultural workers are core to fundamental freedoms and will form an integral part of the conversations at the Summit. This month, we are also delighted to announce that registration for the in-person 9th World Summit on Arts and Culture 2023 in Stockholm is now open. We look forward to seeing many of you in Sweden from 3-5 May 2023.

Along with the rest of the international cultural community, we at IFACCA are also preparing for the upcoming historic UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 meeting in Mexico later this month. On the eve of MONDIACULT, IFACCA Members will gather at the 8th General Assembly of the Federation as well as Regional Chapter Meetings in Mexico City, the first such in person gatherings since 2019. This edition of ACORNS marks seven months until we, along with our co-hosts, the Swedish Arts Council, welcome the international arts and culture community to Stockholm for the 9th World Summit on Arts and Culture from 3-5 May 2023. We are delighted to announce that registration for the Summit is now open. We look forward to examining the theme of Safeguarding Artistic Freedom over the three days of the Summit, through a holistic and immersive programme, in the cultural hub of Stockholm. The World Summits are IFACCA’s flagship programme, and this edition is particularly special as it will be the first time since the pandemic that we gather again in person as a community and as the Federation.

More information about the programme and other details related to the Summit are available on the World Summit website and will be periodically populated over the coming weeks and months, as customary in the lead up to the World Summit. Do keep an eye on future ACORNS issues for further announcements about programme sessions and Summit speakers.

Prepared between January and September 2022, A crisis of sustainable careers? explores key issues related to the precarious working conditions of artists and independent workers in the cultural and creative sectors (CCSs), including the role public agencies currently play and how could they further strengthen these conditions. This public report is a part of IFACCA’s Sustainable Futures series and is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria (an IFACCA Affiliate Member). The report is available in English and Spanish.

The launch of the activities included in the programme of the 6th Edition of the National Week of Togolese Cinema (SNCT) took place this Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Palais des Congrès in Kara. The official ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Staff, KPAYE Bakayota, representing the Minister of Culture and Tourism. It is for the first time that such an activity is organized inside the country and it reflects the desire of the department to democratize access to the 7th art to all citizens but also to get closer to the actors of the regions.

Este mes nos alegra compartir nuestro último informe ¿Una crisis de carreras sostenibles?  Análisis de las condiciones laborales de los(as) trabajadores(as) independientes de las artes y la cultura, con el que hemos contado con cuatro expertos autores, Laurence Cuny, Xin Gu, Martín Inthamoussú y Ammar Kessab. El informe se realizó entre enero y septiembre de 2022 y analiza los aspectos económicos y sociales de las condiciones laborales en los sectores culturales y creativos, como la seguridad social, las redes de protección, los estándares salariales, la fiscalidad, las pensiones y la legislación, centrado en las y los artistas y profesionales independientes de la cultura. El informe ofrece estudios de casos prácticos para mostrar políticas que se han diseñado e implementado con buenos resultados en distintas regiones del mundo y señala oportunidades para gobiernos y agencias públicas para fortalecer las condiciones laborales en la reconstrucción tras la pandemia. El informe está disponible aquí para su descarga en inglés y español y ha recibido el generoso apoyo del Gobierno de Victoria (Australia) mediante Creative Victoria (Miembro Afiliado de IFACCA).

La publicación de ¿Está en crisis la sostenibilidad de las carreras profesionales? señala un importante paso en la ruta hacia la 9ª Cumbre Mundial de las Artes y la Cultura - Salvaguardar la libertad artística. Las condiciones laborales de artistas y profesionales independientes de la cultura son un elemento central de las libertades fundamentales y formarán parte integral de los diálogos de la Cumbre. Este mes también nos alegra anunciar que está ya abierto el período de inscripción para la participación presencial en la 9ª Cumbre Mundial de las Artes y la Cultura. Esperamos ver a muchas y muchos de ustedes en Suecia los días 3 a 5 de mayo de 2023.

Al igual que el resto de la comunidad cultural internacional, en IFACCA nos estamos preparando la histórica Conferencia Mundial de la UNESCO sobre Políticas Culturales y Desarrollo Sostenible – MONDIACULT 2022 en México a finales de mes. En la publicación de esta edición de ACORNS, quedan siete meses para que, juntamente con el Consejo de las Artes de Suecia, demos la bienvenida a la comunidad internacional de las artes y la cultura a Estocolmo para la 9ª Cumbre Mundial de las Artes y la Cultura, los días 3 a 5 de mayo de 2023. Nos alegra anunciar que las inscripciones para la Cumbre ya se pueden realizar, y esperamos analizar el tema de la Salvaguardar la libertad artística durante los tres días de la Cumbre con un programa completo e intensivo en el faro cultural que es Estocolmo. Las Cumbres Mundiales son el programa de bandera de IFACCA y esta edición es mayormente especial en la medida que será la primera vez desde la pandemia que la comunidad y la Federación podamos reunirnos en persona. Encontrará más información sobre el programa y otros detalles de la Cumbre en la página web de la Cumbre Mundial, que iremos completando en las próximas semanas y meses, como es habitual antes de la Cumbre. En las próximas ediciones de ACORNS iremos anunciando las sesiones del programa y los ponentes de la Cumbre.

El Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte participa en la misión arqueológica subacuática liderada por la UNESCO en torno al espacio denominado “Bancos del Skerki”. Esta misión se encuadra en el proyecto de cooperación internacional para la Protección del Patrimonio Cultural Subacuático y se desarrolla al amparo de la Convención UNESCO 2001 para la Protección del Patrimonio Cultural Subacuático (PCS), en el que participan ocho países: Argelia, Croacia, Egipto, España, Francia, Italia, Marruecos y Túnez, siendo este último el coordinador del plan. El proyecto, iniciado en el marco de la celebración del vigésimo aniversario de esta Convención en el año 2021, se ha convertido en el mayor programa de cooperación cultural hasta la fecha en la materia, bajo el objetivo común de proteger el patrimonio cultural sumergido de los Bancos de Skerki.

La ministra de Cultura, Mariemm Pleitez, participó en el lanzamiento del proyecto Agregados para Asuntos de Diáspora en las Representaciones Diplomáticas y Consulares, impulsado por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, este 23 de agosto. La viceministra de Diáspora y Movilidad Humana, Cindy Mariella Portal, detalló que los compatriotas siempre han estado cerca del país y son parte fundamental del desarrollo nacional, por tanto, desde Cancillería se promueve su inclusión política, económica, cultural y social.  El proyecto busca reconocer el ejercicio de la ciudadanía salvadoreña desde el fortalecimiento de los vínculos con su país, así como fomentar la cohesión social de las comunidades de salvadoreños en el exterior.

El ministro de la Secretaria Nacional de Cultura (SNC), Rubén Capdevila, inauguró la Biblioteca Pública Municipal de la ciudad de Filadelfia. El proyecto nace del marco del proyecto “Implementación y equipamiento de bibliotecas públicas en territorios con mayor índice de vulnerabilidad social a nivel nacional, para el fortalecimiento de la Red Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas” y se lleva adelante con la cooperación de la república de China (Taiwan). Debido a su conexión internacional, la biblioteca fue equipada con equipos informáticos, mobiliarios, juegos lúdicos, 1000 libros y espacios de lectura para chicos y grandes.

Con el título “Hacia un modelo de bienestar social”, se llevó a cabo una nueva sesión de las Conferencias Chapultepec, diálogos que se realizan rumbo a la Conferencia Mundial sobre las Políticas Culturales (Mondiacult) 2022, Mondiacult 2022 es convocada por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (Unesco) y organizada de manera conjunta con México, país sede de este encuentro que se realizará del 28 al 30 de septiembre próximos en la Ciudad de México. Este encuentro de ministros de cultura tiene como objetivo general reflexionar sobre las políticas culturales en el contexto actual, incluyendo la adaptación del sector cultural a la transformación digital, la contribución de la cultura al desarrollo social y económico, y a la acción climática; resaltar la función transversal de la cultura como facilitador de la resiliencia, el bienestar y la prosperidad; y definir las principales perspectivas del sector cultural para la próxima década, y orientar la labor futura de la Unesco en el ámbito de la cultura, entre otros aspectos.
