Jake O’Loughlin, Eoin Kelly, Sorcha Murphy, Daniel Tallon, Barry Kennedy, Emily Leonard, and Marcus Geraghty all demonstrated exceptional dedication and hard work achieving top marks across a range of subjects. We would also like to extend our congratulations to William Wu who could not be present for the group photograph as he is currently reading Mathematics at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Their commitment to academic excellence has been truly inspiring, and their success is a testament to their perseverance and focus throughout their years of study. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and the example they have set for their peers. As they move on to new challenges and opportunities we wish them the very best in all their future endeavours. Whether they continue their education or pursue other paths we are confident that they will continue to excel and make a positive impact in whatever they choose to do. Form 6 Biology Field TripForm 6 pupils studying Biology embarked on an exciting and educational field trip to conduct an in-depth study of an ecosystem as part of the Ecology section in our syllabus. The chosen environment for this exploration was a rocky seashore habitat which offered a perfect setting for hands-on learning and discovery. The destination was the rugged granite coast of Sandycove where the pupils eagerly set out to explore the unique ecosystem that thrives between the tides. Armed with quadrats, clipboards, and boundless curiosity they were free to investigate and document the diverse life forms found in this fascinating habitat. Each tide pool appeared to be its own thriving microcosm teeming with life and wonder. From the vibrant hues of sea anemones to the intricate patterns of polychaete worms burrowing into the sand pupils had the opportunity to observe a wide array of marine species up close. Every rock turned over revealed a hidden world – starfish clinging to the underside, crabs scuttling for cover, and clusters of mussels anchored firmly to the rockface. The experience allowed pupils to see first hand how these organisms are specially adapted to survive in such a dynamic environment where conditions shift with each passing wave. The day was not just about observing marine life but also about gathering data for further study. Quadrats were used to measure population density and pupils carefully noted down the frequency of various species within the ecosystem. This hands-on approach gave them a deeper understanding of ecological relationships such as predator-prey dynamics and how species compete for resources like space and food. Overall, the trip was an invaluable opportunity for the pupils to apply their classroom learning in a real-world context. The weather was inclement on day two of the excursion but we quickly adapted and embraced a cross-curricular approach by making an impromptu visit to the nearby Martello Tower. This unexpected stop turned out to be a highlight as we were warmly welcomed and expertly guided by the fantastic staff
there. The visit offered a wonderful blend of history, culture, and science allowing us to explore the significance of the tower while connecting it to our broader learning. Despite the weather the day was a great success! Cricket Ireland VictoryHigh School alumna Orla Prendergast (HSD, 2014-20) made history over the weekend as part of the Ireland Women's Cricket team which defeated England in a T20 match at Clontarf Cricket Club. Named player of the match and series, Orla scored 52 runs off 34 balls in the first T20 match on Saturday and followed this with a T20i career best of 80 runs off 51 deliveries in the second T20 match on Sunday. Our past pupil will be playing in the WBBL (Women's Big Bash League) in the coming months and is set to depart for Australia shortly. We wish her all imaginable success as she continues to excel in her sport. Culture Night at The High SchoolAre you curious about the rich history of education in Ireland? This Culture Night, you are invited to explore a fascinating archive located right here on the grounds of The High School. For one evening only, the archive will open its doors to the public, offering a rare opportunity to delve into the story of a 350-year-old education charity. Usually reserved for researchers by appointment, this special occasion welcomes visitors of all ages to uncover the charity's remarkable contributions, having grant-aided over 250 schools throughout its long history. This is your chance to learn more about an institution that provides a unique snapshot of Irish education and society, featuring documents, photos, and artifacts that bring the past to life. As part of this year's event, a new display will commemorate the anniversary of the amalgamation with the Diocesan Secondary School for Girls, showcasing how the two institutions came together to create a lasting legacy. The event is open to all, no booking is required, and the venue is fully wheelchair accessible. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a local resident, or simply curious, this is a night not to be missed!
