Prayer Teaching

Praying Together

Sara Jukes

One of the ways we see people praying in the Bible and especially in the New Testament is together. In Acts 2, the church’s first prayer meeting took place and in a number of other places in Acts we see believers gathering together to pray, such as those mentioned in the Added Extras section below. The major thing that we see when people pray together in the Bible are moves of God.

Psalm 133 says,

“Behold how good and how pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity… for there the Lord commands the blessing – life forevermore.”

God blesses us and the prayers we pray when we pray together. He loves it when we spend quiet time alone with Him, but I believe there is a special place in God’s heart, and a place of power spiritually when we pray and believe together. God has called the church His body and therefore the more we do things together, the more beautiful I believe it looks to Him.

In Matthew 18:20, Jesus said,

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Sometimes it’s hard to pray with other people, we can feel unconfident and embarrassed, but it is so pleasing to God when we pray and agree together for things.

Practical: Come along to the next prayer meeting, pray as a small group or pray with a friend.

Pray: God give me a confidence to pray with other people and a desire to attend prayer meetings. Amen
