Congratulations to ITHS Faculty Co-Director of Integrating Special Populations, Tumaini Rucker Coker, MD, MBA, for being elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Coker is one of three professors at the University of Washington elected to the National Academy of Medicine in recognition of excellence in the fields of health and medicine, along with a commitment to volunteer service. Congratulations to ITHS Co-Principal Investigator and Associate Vice President for Research Development Elizabeth Shanahan for being named a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. Fellows are chosen by the membership based on the fellow’s distinguished and continuing achievements in and contributions to public administration and public policy. The National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) was chartered by the U.S. Congress to provide independent, nonpartisan and neutral advice to government leaders and agencies at all levels of government, similar to the National Academy of Sciences. APPLICATION OPEN: TL1 TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM The application period is now open for the ITHS TL1 Translational Research Training Program, a predoctoral training program sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We invite graduate students from health-related programs at the University of Washington and Montana State University to apply by December 15th for the program.
ANNOUNCING CRISP: CLINICAL RESEARCH INTENSIVE SUMMER PROGRAMApplications open on November 15th for this new course designed to provide physician clinical investigators with hands-on experience in key clinical research skills to accelerate their career development. ITHS: SUPPORTING RESEARCH EFFORTS OF JUNIOR INVESTIGATORSThe ITHS offers Catalyst Awards to provide “just-in-time” resources especially to early career investigators looking to complete a project or collect pilot data for a larger grant application. BIOTECH INNOVATIONS FEATURED IN CAPTIVATING LIGHTNING TALKS This year’s ITHS/WE-REACH Expo focused on the latest advancements in biotech and vaccine development. Keynote presentations focused on developing targeted vaccines for breast cancer, development of a substance abuse vaccine that targets opioids, and developing innovative vaccine technology that has the potential to revolutionize the field of immunology. In addition to the keynote presentations, the event also featured an hour of fascinating lightning talks that focused on new inventions in the biomedical field. We’ve captured those lighting talks here – each one under three minutes, but detailing the incredible work being done to support innovation in this space.
