Pre-order your ML kit by August 14th to guarantee your stickers!

NaNoWriMo

Hi everyone,

Things are really getting into gear for this year's NaNoWriMo! I'm excited that we've been able to get MLs confirmed for the year so much earlier so people have a bit more breathing room to get settled and sorted out.

🚨🚨🚨Note: if you do not pre-order your ML kit by August 14th, we cannot guarantee your requested number of stickers. 🚨🚨🚨

Here's what's included in this email:

  • Deadline extended for pre-ordering ML kits! (Deadline: August 14)
  • New MLs have been activated
  • Refresher on available ML resources
  • Reminders from my previous email

Deadline extended for pre-ordering ML kits

If you have not yet pre-ordered your ML kit, we've extended the deadline to August 14th to give our new MLs a bit more time to get the process figured out.

Remember: this is a pre-order. Kits will not be shipping until early September! (I'll keep you posted as we get information from DFTBA about timelines.)

  • If you have new co-MLs in your region, please check in with them about whether you've already placed a pre-order!
  • If you have returning co-MLs in your region, please make sure you're coordinating your orders. You should only order more than one kit per region if you will not at any point see your co-ML(s) in person and all of you will be seeing participants in person.
  • If you are the only ML in your region, you may pre-order your kit at your convenience if you will see participants in person.

You can also order one ML pin per ML in your region. The link to the pins is in the ML kit description in the store. If you won't see participants or co-MLs in person, feel free to just place an order for a pin.

New MLs have been activated

We've still got a few stragglers coming in, but we have largely finished activating new MLs for 2023. Hooray!

If you haven't already been in touch with any new co-MLs in your region, please double check your region to see if they have been activated. If they're listed there, come on over to this thread and see if they've tagged you. If not, go ahead and tag them there and sort out the best way to connect with one another!

If you have already tagged a co-ML there and haven't heard back, shoot me an email that includes your username and region, and I can send out a quick introduction. (Please try tagging them in that thread first just to save me emails where possible.)

Refresher on available ML resources

The ML Support Hub

  • Most available resources for MLs should be linked here

  • I've updated the downloadables page with the table tent for write-ins, which we took down while we weren't having in-person write ins!

The ML forum

  • Come and introduce yourself if you haven't already!
  • Feel free to start threads for discussion or with questions. (Tag me if you need my input, please!)

The ML Facebook group

  • Optional, but a friendly and convenient place to chat with other MLs if you're already a Facebook user!

The ML Discord

  • Optional. An ML-run space to connect with other MLs and a great way to learn the Discord ropes and get quick support from your fellow MLs.

Reminders from my previous email

We're asking all returning MLs to attend one of two Right to Be workshops at some point this year:

  • Bystander Intervention to Stop Online Harassment: How to Be An Ally When You Witness Abuse Online

  • Bystander Intervention to Stop Hate Based Harassment, In Partnership with Houston Coalition Against Hate

Upcoming times are posted on their website. In addition, they post the recordings of these workshops on their Facebook page for at least 24 hours following each workshop. I will link to the recordings as they're available!

If you know you won't be able to participate in any of these workshops because of a language barrier, limited internet access for video, accessibility needs not met by a video training, or another barrier to access, please fill out this form so we can work together to find an alternative option.

Do you have a recommendation for a resource, a workshop, an article, or internal documents you've created in your region that have helped you work towards a more inclusive, equitable, and accessible community, or a request for support in a certain area? Please share your recommended and requested resources!

Thanks so much, everyone! I'm running new ML orientation sessions this week and I'm going camping next week, but once I'm back I'm going to start scheduling some additional (optional) real-time events for MLs. I'm thinking it would be fun to do an ML NaNo Prep event in September that's kind of a mix of getting ideas for running NaNo Prep events yourself and also doing some novel planning together with our NaNo Prep resources!

If you have questions for me, feel free to ask them in this thread, or I'll be in the ML Discord for the next few hours. If it's a question you don't want to ask publicly, please email rather than sending me a DM on any of the other platforms, and include your username and region. Thank you!
