Want Scrivener? We've got instructions.

Dear Winning Wrimos,

Congrats on your big accomplishment! You have truly rocked your word count and are sitting pretty on your win! We hope you've downloaded your winner badge, filled out your winner certificate, and are enjoying all the spoils of your labor!

We let you know in a newsletter last week that we were aware of issues with  claiming Scrivener's amazing 50% off winner offer. We're reaching out today with instructions for how to get it if you tried before and it was a miss. If the code you used didn't work, we apologize for the inconvenience. This was meant to be a unique code, and our website was having trouble with our code generation module.

If you already write with Scrivener or are not interested in the offer, no action on your part is necessary. Your winner page has everything you need. But if you're interested in the offer, we'll fix you right up! Here's what to do:

Step 1: Check Your Winner Page

From your dashboard, click on the "NaNoWriMo 2024" challenge or the project that contains it. You should see a winner trophy next to any view of this challenge or this project. A link that says "Winner" next to your trophy will take you to the winner page.

Step 2: Check Your Winner Page for the Dynamic Scrivener Module

If you see the following box containing the Scrivener offer, with a unique code on the bottom right of the screen, you have the correct code to take advantage of the offer. No further action is needed.

Step 3: If You Don't See the Dynamic Scrivener Module and You Want The Discount, You Have to "Win" Again

Unfortunately, if you won earlier in the month before we fixed this issue, the only way to get the winner page to show the correct module for the Scrivener code is to have you un-win (by unwinding your word count in the system), then win again. This means going back to delete your word count, back to the last date before you had 50,000 words (i.e., "un-winning"), refreshing to make sure your trophy disappears, then re-populating those days with your daily word count so that you can win again.

Here is how to get to your daily word count, and to edit it:

  1. Start on your dashboard: https://nanowrimo.org/dashboard
  2. Click on the name of your novel
  3. Once inside this year's project, look for the tab right above your book cover that says "Goals". Click on that.
  4. Under the "Goals" tab, click on the name of this year's challenge, "NaNoWriMo 2024"
  5. On the next screen, you will see a left sidebar. Look at the square box that says "Progress Updates". That box contains your word count for every day you have written
  6. Record your daily word count back to the date you hit 50,000 words (maybe a screen shot or copy/paste into a separate doc). You will need a record of your daily word count so that you can later repopulate this data.
  7. Now is the moment to delete your word count back to the date when you hit 50,000 words. You should be able to see what date that is on your graph to the right of the progress update box
  8. Now that you have "un-won", refresh your page. Your winner trophy should have disappeared.
  9. Return to the Progress Update box and add back in the word count for the dates you deleted using the Add New Update button.

Now that you have repopulated all the word count for all the dates, the system will recognize you as a winner again and will spawn a new version of the trophy and the page that was missing the module before. Now, you will be able to see your streak correctly on the graph and you will be able to receive all your winner benefits.

We recognize that this is inconvenient and may sound daunting. Again, we apologize. We'll say one more time that this is only something you need to do if you want the 50% off Scrivener offer this year.

If you have trouble, please reach out to us at the NaNoWriMo help desk.

Thanks again to Scrivener and congrats again on your amazing win!
