Welcome to the December edition of my Grants Newsletter.

The Shortland Stronger Communities Grant Programme (Round 7) is now open but will be closing soon.

Funding between $2,500 and $20,000 is available for incorporated not for profits in the Shortland electorate for eligible small capital works that are aimed at delivering social benefit to the community.

Stronger Communities Grant - Round 7 Expressions of Interest Closing Soon!

Amount: $2,500 - $20,000
EOI Closing Date: Sunday 12 December 2021 12pm
Purpose: For incorporated not-for-profits in the Shortland electorate for eligible small capital works that are aimed at delivering social benefit to the community.

Expressions of Interest 
Expressions of interest (EOI) are now open for the chance to secure up to $20,000 for your community organisation. 

About the program
The Stronger Communities Programme will provide up to $150,000 to each federal electorate for eligible small capital projects that encourage and support participation in local projects, improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant and viable communities. 

Type of projects that may be funded?

  • Fit out, alterations and/or extensions to existing premises e.g. air-conditioning, kitchen upgrades, TVs, furniture, fixtures, fittings, and paint
  • Upgrades, construction and fit-out of community spaces, e.g. men’s sheds, community centres, scout halls etc.
  • Purchase of musical instruments, sports equipment and uniforms that remain the property of the organisation
  • Upgrade or installation of park furniture including shade/shelters, BBQs, toilet facilities, drinking fountains
  • Acquiring equipment for the local State Emergency Service and rural fire brigades
  • Acquiring vehicles and trailers (and their modification) for community transport/services, surf lifesaving, medical transport
  • Upgrades of sporting facilities and fields including new scoreboards, spectator seating, goalposts, fit-out of change rooms, new canteen, new lights, medical equipment, upgrade drainage and water systems, gymnasiums
  • Development or upgrade of bike paths, streetscapes, skate parks or community gardens.

FEDERAL GRANTS

 

Building Better Regions Fund - Round 6

Amount: Funding pool for R6 $250 million
Closing Date: 10 February 2022
Purpose: To invest in projects located in, or benefiting eligible areas outside the major capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and Canberra.

Grant funding is available through two funding streams:

  • The Infrastructure Projects Stream: Supports projects that involve construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure
     
  • The Community Investments Stream: Funds community development activities including, but not limited to, new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, leadership and capability building activities.

Legal Assistance for Royal Commission into Defence & Veteran Suicide

Amount: Total funding pool $8.44 million
Closing Date: Ongoing
Purpose: To assist individuals and entities to meet the costs of legal representation and disbursements associated with formally engaging with the Royal Commission.

Entrepreneurs' Programme - Innovation Connections Grant

Amount: $50,000
Closing Date: Ongoing
Purpose: To assist businesses to understand their research needs, connect with the research sector and fund collaborative research projects.

AgUP Program - 2022 Round 1

Amount: $1.5 million
Closing Date: 20 January 2022
Purpose: The program provides grants to co-fund industry-led (agriculture, fisheries and forestry) initiatives aimed at supporting jobs and retaining the Australian workforce by building skills, establishing and enhancing career progression pathways and mentoring opportunities.

Local Sporting Champion Grant

Amount: $500 - $750
Closing Date for this round: 31 December 2021
Purpose: To help our junior sport stars meet the costs of participation at eligible sporting competitions.

Junior athletes turning 12 to 18 years of age in the same year as the nominated sporting championship can apply for a grant to cover the cost of:

  • Travel
  • Accommodation
  • Uniforms
  • Equipment

Student Science Engagement and International Competitions Sponsorship Grant

Amount: $1,500 - $15,000
Closing Date: 25 January 2022
Purpose: To sponsor young Australians to take part in-person or virtually in STEM engagement activities and competitions. Eligible entities include:

  • Schools
  • Incorporated not for profit organisations
  • Incorporated entities applying on behalf of a student or a group of students.

The Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science - Science Teaching Prizes

Amount: $50,000
Closing Date: 10 February 2022
Purpose: To recognise Australian science educators for excellence in science teaching. There are two science teaching prizes:

  • Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Primary Schools
  • Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools

Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants  

Amount: Up to $150,000
Closing Date: 8 February 2022
Purpose: To preserve Australia's wartime heritage and to involve people throughout the nation in a wide range of projects. Two categories of grants are available:

  • Community Grants - Up to $10,000 for community based commemorative projects and activities, including the building of community memorials and the preservation of wartime memorabilia that is significant locally but is not necessarily nationally significant
  • Major Grants - Grants between $10,001 and $150,000 for major commemorative projects and activities that are significant from a national, state, territory and/or regional perspective.

Future Drought Fund: Resilient Soils and Landscapes

Amount: $100 million
Closing Date: 11 January 2022
Purpose: To provide a sustainable source of funding to help Australian farmers and agricultural-dependent communities and businesses become more prepared for and resilient to the impacts of drought.

Wage Subsidies

Amount: $10,000
Closing Date: Ongoing
Purpose:  Wage subsidies are a financial incentive to encourage employers to hire eligible participants in ongoing jobs by contributing to the initial costs of hiring a new employee. 

  • Up to $10,000 (GST inclusive) is available for new employees who are: 15 to 24 years of age, Indigenous Australians, or 50 years of age and over.
  • Up to $6,500 (GST inclusive) is available for new employees who are: 25 to 29 years of age, parents, or registered with an employment services provider for 12 months or more.

Preparing Australian Communities Program: Local Stream

Amount: $20,000 - $10 million
Closing Date: 6 January 2022
Purpose: To support projects that mitigate or reduce the disaster risk, impact and consequence associated with large-scale natural hazards.

Live Music Australia – Round 4

Amount: $100,000
Closing Date:  20 December 2021
Purpose: To provide support to the live music sector, with a focus on small to medium venues that support high quality original Australian live music that is professionally staged. It aims to revive business ventures in local suburbs, towns and regions across the country, building capacity for a sustainable live music scene with strong community roots, in all parts of Australia.

Elevate Grants

Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: 14 December 2021
Purpose: Is a career development grant opportunity open to First Nations writers, editors, illustrators, and arts workers in the literature sector. Elevate is designed to support and develop career pathways which may include building capacity, networks, and audiences for their work. This opportunity is open to all career levels and genres of writers. Six grants will be awarded.

STATE GRANTS

 

First Lap Voucher Program

Amount: $100
Closing Date: 30 June 2022
Purpose: This summer the First Lap voucher program will provide a $100 voucher to parents, guardians and carers of children aged 3-6 years who are not enrolled in school to help pay for swimming lessons.

Alfresco Outdoor Dining Grant

Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: Undisclosed
Purpose: For hospitality businesses to establish new alfresco settings. The Alfresco Restart package will include $5,000 grants for 5,000 hospitality businesses to use towards outdoor dining.

Social Sector Support Fund (SSSF) 

Amount: $50 million
Closing Date: 31 December 2021
Purpose: Funding for eligible charities and Not-For-Profits (NFPs) in the social, health, disability and animal welfare service sectors in NSW. The Fund is targeted at organisations that are ineligible for the NFP JobSaver scheme and are experiencing an increased demand for services and/or a decline in income.

Emergency Hardship Payment

Amount: One-off payment of $400 
Closing Date: Undisclosed
Purpose: To provide assistance to people across all of NSW who are under severe financial strain but are not eligible for other support payments and grants. The emergency relief is to help people meet their basic needs, like food, medicine or shelter. The support is for temporary and provisional visa holders, as well as people who may not currently hold a valid visa, in extreme financial hardship.

NSW Small Business Month - Rebuild, Recharge, Renew

Amount: $2,500 - $3,500 
Closing Date: 10 December 2021
Purpose: To deliver events during NSW Small Business Month that directly benefit and support the small business community. The grants can be used to help host activities for business communities across the state from 1 to 31 March 2022.

COVID-19 Micro Business Support Grant 

Amount: $1,500 a fortnight 
Purpose: A fortnightly payment for businesses with a turnover between $30,000 and $75,000.

JobSaver 

Amount: Employing businesses: 40% of weekly payroll, with a minimum payment of $1,500 per week to a maximum payment of $10,000 a week. Non-employing businesses: $1,000 a week for a 30% decline in revenue and turnover between $75,000 and $50 million. 
Purpose: To help maintain employee headcount.

Amount: $25,000

Purpose: To support startups by helping them engage with a potential business customer, or channel to market, to achieve market validation and first sale.

Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand Fund

Amount: $75,000 - $2 million
Closing Date: 31 December 2021
Purpose: To support the arts and entertainment sector to reactivate.

The program is targeting the arts and entertainment sector organisations who are seeking to restart, re-imagine or create new activities. The fund will provide finance to assist with the presentation of new or re-shaped cultural and creative activities and events including festivals, concerts and tours.

The Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Grants Program

Amount: $5,000 - $15,000
Closing Date: 17 December 2021
Purpose: To support multicultural festivals and events across NSW. It invests in community projects and activities that foster community harmony and celebrate cultural diversity as a precious part of our identity and way of life.

Regional Events Acceleration Fund

Amount: Stream 1 $50,000 - $200,000,  Stream 2  in excess of $100,000
Closing Date: 17 December 2021
Purpose: To support the social and economic recovery of our regions, helping organisations attract new major international and domestic events to regional areas and support existing regional events to grow even bigger and better.

The types of events eligible for funding include:

  • Major sporting and lifestyle events
  • Major food and beverage events
  • Major music, art and culture festivals.

Start Strong Capital Works Grants Program - Major Capital Works EOI

Amount: No limit on grant amount requested
Closing Date: 4 March 2022
Purpose: The Major Capital Works Fund supports the creation of additional community preschool places through new builds, extensions and renovations of centre-based community preschools in areas of need and demand.

Purpose: To build knowledge, skills and participation in land management practices.

Purpose: To support the sports sector as they emerge from restrictions.

The funding is designed to support 94 eligible State Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Organisations with a Disability (SSODs) to get back to their passion for sport.

Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund Grant

Amount: $1 million - $5 million
Closing Date: 25 February 2022
Purpose: To provide new and improved sports facilities across the state, enabling record numbers of people to be healthy and active. The Fund will: 

  • Increase the number and type of multi-sport facilities
  • Improve the standard of existing multi-sport facilities
  • Increase the utilisation of sport facilities
  • Support the equitable provision of, and access to multi-sport facilities to grow sport participation for women and girls
  • Provide inclusive and accessible multi-sport facilities that support sport participation for people with disability, First Nations peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

LMCC Youth Week 2022 Grants

Amount: $1,000

Purpose: Designed for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events. Youth Week will run from 4 April until 14 April 2022. The theme for 2022 will be - It's up to YOU'th.

2021 Hunter Photo Prize

Amount: Camera prize package valued at $900
Closing Date: 20 January 2022
Purpose: The annual Hunter Photography Prize is open to residents of the Hunter Region. To be eligible your main source of income cannot be derived from photography. 

Photographs must either be taken in the region or feature Hunter people. You can take your pictures with anything ranging from a Box Brownie to your trusty smartphone. The overall winner will collect the 2021 Hunter Photography Prize.

CADBURY Get In The Game Grants Program

Purpose: To encourage more girls to get involved in sport, and create greater opportunities for women.
