Gateway-2-Health is a project newsletter providing updates and key information on the Health Gateway to Industry Schools project. The Health Gateway is delivered by CheckUP in partnership with Queensland’s Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT).
Our project team is working closely with Queensland schools and health industry employers to promote career pathways and support students' understanding of the varied and in-demand roles in the health sector. Welcome back to a brand-new academic year! We hope this message finds you in good health, well rested following the holidays and high spirits, ready to tackle Term 1. The Health Gateway team is looking forward to reconnecting with all schools and extend a warm welcome to both new and continuing Health Gateway schools. As we dive into 2024, we anticipate another great year ahead, marked by meaningful connections and collaborative efforts within our Health Gateway community. Get ready for the Health Career Expo 2024! Here is all the important info you need to know! - Date: 13 June 2024
- Venue: International Royal Convention Centre (IRCC), RNA Showgrounds
- Time: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
This event is a unique collaboration between Queensland Health, Health Gateway to Industry Schools Program and health organisations across Queensland, designed to connect students with industry leaders and open doors to exciting healthcare
prospects. The expo features live demonstrations, mock health facilities, and information booths offering insights into school-
based traineeships and work experience opportunities. Teachers won't miss out, with professional development sessions scheduled throughout the day. Parents are also invited to register and attend after 3 pm, along with community members keen on discovering the diverse opportunities within the health sector. 2024 Gateway Annual Plan Reminder 📆
To ensure the continuation of our partnerships, all existing Health Gateway Schools must complete a new Gateway Activity Plan (GAP). This plan serves as a crucial document, consolidating VET health education, career activities/events, and industry connections to enable your Health Gateway Coordinator to effectively support your school. Completing the plan should only require approximately 5 minutes of your time. Please check your emails as Sabrina Kerr has sent a request to all schools containing a Word and PDF version of the GAP template for your convenience. Your prompt completion and email submission of the plan by COB Friday, February 23, 2024, would be greatly appreciated. Nominations are open for the 2024 Queensland Training Awards – celebrating excellence in training and the transformative power of skills. The prestigious Queensland Training Awards have been shining a spotlight on excellence in training and the transformative power of skills since 1962. Across a range of categories, the annual awards recognise individuals and organisations that strive for and have achieved success, best practice and innovation in vocational education and training (VET). The awards showcase all that's great about VET in Queensland, with categories for apprentices, trainees, vocational students, teachers and trainers, as well as training providers and employers. About the Gateway Program
The Health Gateway to Industry Schools program (GISP) is a project being delivered by CheckUP in partnership with Queensland’s Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT). The project aims to develop school students’ knowledge and understanding of the varied roles available in the health workforce and improve their access to learning and experiential opportunities in Queensland’s growing health sector.
