Note from the RE

You know what happens when you're the guest editor for the month?  You get to put your car on the header of the newsletter!

September was filled with celebrations from many of our Region members attending (and some coming home with trophies) from the Solo Nationals in Nebraska.  This year, I was able to stay at home, and miss the 40+ hour drive, as Jason Felty co-drive Monty the MR2 with Rob.  While I missed seeing everyone and all of the fun I usually have, I didn't miss the drive out and back, or the extreme heat at this year's event.

I also participated in the Region's first ever Scavenger Rally, which I talk about later.  It was a blast and I can't wait for the next one!

October started out great with our Autocross events 9 and 10.  I personally had both the best and worst runs of my life - all within the course of 2 runs.  For the first time in 6 seasons, I came through the finish, looking at the timing board in disbelief because the time was so low.  My entire trip from finish to grid was filled with shock... thinking I'll get a rerun because there's no way I did that well.  Turns out, I did!  The run after my best run, was then my worst run, Monty and I went off course...and then way off course.  While it didn't bother me at the time, getting back out in the afternoon at speed, I realized that the whole thing did shake me more than I realized.  I still had a good afternoon, just not as awesome as my morning win...Yes, you read that right, I won my class at event 9.  Miracles never cease.

I can't wait to see you out at the season-ender event, our 4th Annual Match Tour.

Keep it Classy Susquehanna,
Melissa

Susquehanna's First Scavenger Hunt Rally was Awesome!

by: Melissa Mauro

Since I'm writing many of the articles this month, I figured I'd give a recap of the Region's first Scavenger Rally called "Choose your Own Citrus Rally".  Mike Chilcote and Adam Dellinger ran a Lemons style rally last year, and wanted to bring the same fun to our Region.  They did an incredible job, and with the help of Dave Chilcote as the Safety Steward, the day went off without a hitch.

We had a small group of competitors for this event, so the guys decided to use this as a test event and keep the overall idea smaller.  We had 3 counties to choose from with certain landmarks we had to take photos of to prove that we made it to the various locations.  Our team was called #oldcrocs because Rob had a crocodile mask, and let's face it, the people on my team (me, Rob and John) are in their 40's...so we're old.

It was an absolutely gorgeous fall day to drive around back roads and find cool places with friends.  The best part is, our team won!  We got the first place trophy, and my car got the "Give It The Beans" award because it was the fastest car there.

Overall, it was such an amazing day, I'm really looking forward to the next one.  My hope is that we can organize one for our season opener and do a cookout to celebrate 2023.  Stay tuned for details in a few months, and enjoy the photos below!
