He also touched upon the theme of community, the conference sessions and activities, as well as some of the planned developments at BSLM. A documentary by DW, explored the endemic of obesity, which has led to an extreme rise in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. This monumental health challenge, is a huge cause for concern amongst health authorities and governments worldwide. Although this issue is well documented, resolving it is a far more difficult prospect, while the causes of this problem has also been the subject of a large discussion. Food industries and government authorities have noted a lack of self-discipline in individuals as the reason for the rise in obesity. Others have questioned whether it is more of a collective societal issue. There has been a change in the tide recently, with more questioning - through scientific evidence and political activism - the multinational corporations that have manipulated consumers into purchasing products such as junk foods.
