A look ahead to BSLM 2022 with Dr Fraser Quin

BSLM Executive Director Dr Fraser Quin previews our upcoming lifestyle medicine conference this September, excited for the wealth of expertise on show at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The quality of speakers we have on show cannot be understated, and Fraser was quick to emphasise the variety of topics that will be covered later this year. He also touched upon the theme of community, the conference sessions and activities, as well as some of the planned developments at BSLM.

He also places on record his thanks to Tottenham Hotspur for their support for the work we carry out at BSLM, and for their collaboration in making this conference possible.

Obesity & Corporate Greed

Doctors are predicting that by 2030, half the world's population will be overweight or obese.

A documentary by DW, explored the endemic of obesity, which has led to an extreme rise in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. This monumental health challenge, is a huge cause for concern amongst health authorities and governments worldwide.

Although this issue is well documented, resolving it is a far more difficult prospect, while the causes of this problem has also been the subject of a large discussion.

Food industries and government authorities have noted a lack of self-discipline in individuals as the reason for the rise in obesity. Others have questioned whether it is more of a collective societal issue.

There has been a change in the tide recently, with more questioning - through scientific evidence and political activism - the multinational corporations that have manipulated consumers into purchasing products such as junk foods.

Find out how Chile has been leading this charge to tackle this in DW's documentary.

GP Opportunity

We are currently looking for GP’s who are working in and around City and Hackney to provide lifestyle medicine advice to those signed up for virtual group consultations around women’s health.  Following successful engagement events , Group Consultations Ltd and the City and Hackney PCN’s are looking to provide additional Virtual Group Consultations sessions in this area.

One of the key requests has been for evidence-based Lifestyle advice, around women’s health which provides us with a great opportunity to get lifestyle medicine at the forefront of discussions and they would like to engage with some GP’s willing to offer some time to share this advice, in the coming sessions. If you’re looking to gain exposure to virtual group consultations, this would offer a great opportunity to gain some first-hand experience and likely to lead to publications, potential paid work and opportunities for embedding this model in your own practice. Sessions will arranged in line with availability, 60 min sessions, virtually (MS Teams).
