Happy Christmas from The High School

I should like to take this opportunity to wish all members of The High School community – governors, staff, pupils, parents, and past pupils - a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year. Thank you for everything that has been achieved at HSD in 2021.  I hope you enjoy a restful and recuperative seasonal break at home with family and friends.

Helen Kane Memorial Charity Challenge

This year's Helen Kane Memorial Charity Challenge consisted of either swimming at the Forty Foot or hiking to the summit of the Sugar Loaf.   With excellent weather participants thoroughly enjoyed this annual event.   This hike raised money for Barnardos in memory of our colleague, the late Helen Kane, a dedicated School Receptionist at The High School who died in 2012.  We would like to thank everyone who sponsored our pupils in support of this fundraising event in memory of our dear friend.

Christmas Market

Form 4 Modern Foreign Language pupils held a festive Christmas Market today.  With delicious biscuits, cakes, and treats The Reynolds Hall was transformed into an enticing patisserie as we sampled a taste of international cuisine.  All money raised will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul charity.

Form 6 Christmas Dinner

Form 6 pupils attended a special Christmas lunch which included a festive meal, dessert, and donation to charity.  Pupils gathered together in The Reynolds Hall for food and chat, donning Christmas jumpers to celebrate their last Christmas at The High School together.

Form 6 Home Economics

Pupils in Form 6 who study Home Economics cooked an entire Christmas lunch from scratch this week and took the time to enjoy a special meal together as they mark their last Christmas at the High School.

Form 1 Jingle Bell Run

Pupils from Form 1 participated in a mile-long Jingle Bell Run this week.  It gave
pupils a chance to remove their masks and have some fun as a year group.  Medals were awarded to the fastest runners in each form. It was a great way to mark the end of the term.  We are immensely proud of our Form 1 pupils and we wish them a very happy, restful Christmas!

Rugby Blitz Success

The High School Form 3 rugby squad played in a blitz at Monkstown Football Club last Thursday.  The HSD teams played three matches each against Wesley College and Mount Temple Comprehensive School.  We won every match bar one under the captaincy of Zoe Sargent and Ava Deacon.  If you would like to play rugby with us please contact Mr Sullivan.

Nollaig Shona

Bhí rang 1SU an-ghnóthach agus muid beagnach críochnaithe leis an téarma seo. Rinne an chéad bhliain obair iontach ag fáil réidh don Nollaig.  Chruthaigh an rang pictiúir ghalánta don 'Dhá Lá Déag na Nollaig'. Chan muid carúil sa rang agus bhain na scoláirí an-sult as.  Nollaig shona agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise do na daltaí agus an fhoireann san Ard Scoil!

Sustainable Christmas

We could all make a small effort to be more sustainable this Christmas. This term the Form 4 Development Studies class researched and made posters to spread ideas about how to have a more sustainable Christmas this year.  The sad reality is that most Christmas traditions have costly consequences for our environment such as greenhouse gas emissions stemming from plastic packaging and huge amounts of food waste.  Please make every effort to play your part and have a very happy sustainable Christmas!
