Jon Hall ’75

After 40 years, Jon has retired from teaching.

 

Mary Grams, MA ’86

Mary has retired after 35 years of service at APU as the director of international student compliance, helping countless students from all around the world transition into the APU community and American culture.  

 

Pamela Mshana,
MA ’03

Dr. Mshana is an accomplished playwright, author, and educator for more than 20 years. Her play, Ebony, was produced at Playwrights Horizons in New York and received a dramatic reading at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. As an educator-in-residence at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, she wrote and directed the play, Thando of South Africa. Her debut novel, girls in search of cover, is a 2023 finalist for the International Book Awards.

Ed is using the skills he obtained during graduate school in his position as a San Marcos City Council Member.

 
 

Kelly D. Smith ’09,
MA ’13

Kelly was awarded The Woman of Distinction honor for the city of Menifee in 2017. She’s is the #1 best-selling author of Your Amazing Itty, Bitty Book on Faith: 15 Chapters to Overcome Fear and Live a Life of Victory.

 

Aron Tillema ’14

Aron joined the Gift of Life registry in 2013, and donated blood stem cells to save the life of a woman battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Read Aron's story.

 

Brooke Caroline Nagel ’16

Brooke has been serving in Spain as a missionary focusing on youth ministry for nearly six years.

 

Diego Barbosa-Vásquez, MA ’17

Colombian-born opera, orchestra, and ballet conductor, Diego Barbosa-Vásquez, has been selected among top leaders of American orchestras to participate in the distinguished Plenary Closing Panel at the League of American Orchestras annual conference.

 
 

Jessica Quintana ’17

Jessica moved from higher education to education technology to make a larger impact as a consultant implementing the Workday student product at higher education institutions.

 

Tyler Parker ’18

Tyler moved to Tennessee and finished his MBA in 2022.

 

Dalila Goodrich ’19

Dalila is a special education teacher for the San Bernardino City Unified School District.

 

Kendall Schluchter ’19

Kendall is a licensed and practicing Doctor of Chiropractic in the Torrance area. Her mission is to show that chiropractic medicine provides comfort and confidence to everyone's bodies.

 

Christian Granadosin ’22

Christian is a graphic designer at Mountain Mike’s Pizza corporate headquarters in Newport Beach, California.

 

In Loving Memory

 

Susan Emilia (Smith ’69) Novickas   

Susan Emilia Smith passed away on April 7, 2023. She went to Azusa Pacific College in 1967. While at APC, she met and married William Joseph Novickas in 1969 and welcomed their daughter, Robin Ann Novickas, late that same year. Susan was a devout Christian and women's bible study fellowship leader for many years and her and her husband were Bible study small group leaders for Resurrection Church.  

 

Ronald W. Young ’97

Ronald passed away on February 8, 2023. He graduated from APU with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and music. Ron loved music and played the violin and sang. He was signed with the Hollywood Christian Group and gave concerts in churches in the Los Angeles area. While at APU, he met and married Marilyn Haury. Throughout his life, Ron taught school in the L.A. area, pastored a church in the San Gabriel Valley, and managed a Carrows Restaurant in Ventura. He is known for his many adventure stories and for his deep love for God and family.  

 

Passing of David C. Bicker, PhD, Professor Emeritus

Dr. Bicker, 87, passed away on May 20, 2023. He was the founding chair of the Department of Communications Studies and served as faculty moderator.
