Successful IQ-GEAR workshop - 18-22/8/2025

In the week of 18 August an IQ-GEAR workshop was organised at Ghent University, involving participants from Jimma University, Bahir Dar University, Hawassa University, Ambo University and Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.

This workshop created an interuniversity team spirit to continue strengthening the PhD programs in Ethiopia.

De Leerstoel Zuid-Afrika: Talen, Literaturen, Cultuur en Maatschappij (Universiteit Gent) start in het academiejaar 2025-2026 met een tweede termijn (2025-2029).

Het Gents Centrum voor het Afrikaans en de Studie van Zuid-Afrika is verheugd te melden dat Prof. dr. Stephanus Muller (22 september-31 oktober 2025) en Dr. Jolyn Phillips (3 november-12 december 2025) de Gentse Leerstoelbekleders zijn.

UGent Master of African Studies 2025 opening lecture - 24/9/2025
 

Upon invitation of Prof. Dr. Olorunshola Adenekan and Prof. Dr. Koen Bostoen, Prof. Dr. Emmanuel Akwasi Adu-Ampong (Wageningen University) will open the academic year of the UGent Master of African Studies program with a talk titled “Frictions of space and embodied absences: Tourism’s intersection with slavery and colonial heritage memories“.

Public lecture by Jean Comaroff - 7/10/2025

In this lecture, distinguished anthropologist Jean Comaroff will present her recent work on the politics of housing in post-apartheid South Africa. Through the curious case of the “Wendy house,” a ubiquitous form of informal dwelling in the country’s major urban centres, she examines the central paradox of the house and home in postcolonial, neoliberal cities.

3rd edition Nigeria-Belgium-Luxembourg Business Forum - 22-24/10/2025

The 3rd edition of the Nigeria-Belgium-Luxembourg Business Forum (NBLBF) 2025 will take place in Brussels, Belgium, from October 22nd to 24th, 2025 in attendance of H.E. Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State and H.E. Festus Keyamo Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Nigeria.

Organized in partnership with carefully selected corporate entities and supported by the Embassies of Belgium and Nigeria in Abuja and Brussels, this high-level business forum aims to foster stronger economic ties and investment opportunities between Nigeria, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

Call for Papers: Entangled Seascapes: More-than-Human Histories Across Oceanic Worlds - deadline to submit your abstract: 15/9/2025

This conference seeks to bring together scholars working on pre-modern and early modern oceanic worlds. Framed within the emerging field of blue humanities and building on posthumanist and decolonial perspectives, the conference explores the sea not as a passive space between empires or cultures, but as an active, more-than-human agent, one that shapes and is shaped by human and nonhuman actors.

The conference will be held at the Academia Belgica in Rome on 22–23 January 2026.
