GP Originals post classic Grand Prix 250 and 350 racing
GP Originals arrives at the chequered flag

Ride high, finish well

As we all realise 2024 has been a challenging year for racing across both short circuits and real road racing. After much consideration it has been decided that GP Originals has reached its peak and is now at the point where it would require considerable compromise to continue.

The decision to draw the Series to a close has not come easily. Alternatives already exist elsewhere for riders that are happy to race on a mixed grid, where prize money and high profile circuits are not the focus. We recognise that riders who want to be part of a competitive race need much more, however without the support of the entire field of available machines we are not able to deliver the essential ingredients.

It’s all in the numbers

We kindly ask you to please take the time to read our new article page where we cover, in detail, everything that we have painstakingly considered. We hope this answers all your questions and you can see from the figures and questions presented, why now is the right time.

As always, we ask that you keep discussions considerate, factual and have read and understood the information thoroughly before engaging in critique on social media. Please remember that our team are volunteers and have given many hours of thought to this decision and are in possession of all the facts.

Flag to flag

We have always been very clear that as soon as the time arrived where our core riders began to change class, ride elsewhere or inevitably hang up their leathers, then it would be time to call a retirement.

We are all sad to see the end of this era. But, one thing we can all be sure of, is that GP Originals shall be considered an unquestionable success right through from 2017-2024. We campaigned our final season with the same standard of fierce competition, new lap records were set, we remained the strongest post-classic, two-stroke grid and our collective prize value continued to run in excess of £25,000. We have three worthy champions, each one proved hard to beat even against comparable modern machines.

We have our presentation evening on 2nd November to look forward to, as always we will be making sure this is a cracking evening. It is open to every rider and supporter past and present. We will be celebrating our champions and raising a glass to every one that has contributed to making this Series happen. Invitations will go out and tickets will be available next week.

Staying true

We have also written a tandem article to outline how GP Originals came about. This explains how we arrived at our key essentials list.

If you have time, please read this article, it explains why we feel it is so important for us to not sacrifice our strengths chasing numbers that are unlikely to be found.
